‘Zootopia 2’ Debuts With Stellar Movie Reviews from Critics

Disney lifted the review embargo for “Zootopia 2” on November 25. So far, critics are loving the film, which has debuted with a 93 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. For comparison, the original movie currently sits at a 98 percent with over 295 reviews.
Regarding the new film, one critic on the platform said, “On the strength of its sensitivities, Zootopia 2 is applause-worthy on multiple levels… The bunny-and-fox cops leave no doubts, this udderly human and hilarious harpooning of societal ills is the G.O.A.T. of 21st-century fables.”
Someone else wrote, “Funny, heartwarming, and thematically potent, ‘Zootopia 2′ is one of the better animated movies of the decade.”
Another critic said, “Fans will be thrilled to see Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde back in ‘Zootopia 2’ as they take us on another hilarious and heartwarming adventure. Ke Huy Quan steals the show as the newest addition to Zootopia, Gary De’Snake.”
A different critic compared it to the 2016 film. They wrote, “Like the 2016 original, it works. Because while Zootopia 2 does tread familiar ground, it does so in a way that’s entertaining and moving enough to make it a worthy sequel.”
Finally, another person said of the film, “This sequel to 2016’s smash hit Oscar-winning animated film proves more than worth the lengthy wait, knocking it out of the park with its dazzling visuals, sophisticated humor, and doses of genuine emotion.”
Social Media Also Loves the Film
As is usually the case, people who saw the movie early were allowed to share their reactions on social media before the embargo expired. So far, there’s been a ton of praise for “Zootopia 2” ahead of its release.
One person, Nate Richard, had quite a bit to say about the movie on X. He wrote, “It’s rare for a Disney sequel to live up to the success of the first movie. But #Zootopia2 does exactly that. Clever, funny, lovable, warm, and once again, has something to say. As a fan of the first, I can confidently say this is one of the best Disney sequels in a long time.”
Another reviewer stated, “Zootopia 2 isn’t just a worthy sequel, it’s a total standout. As a die-hard fan of the first film, I didn’t think they could top it… but they DO. Sharp social themes, nonstop laughs, and Easter eggs everywhere. Run, don’t walk. You’re gonna love it.”
According to Deadline, “Zootopia 2” is tracking to debut with over $125 million at the box office. It’s expected to overtake “Wicked: For Good,” which also has mostly strong reviews.
