Just months ahead of his return to “Survivor” for the Emmy-winning competition series’ milestone 50th season, “The White Lotus” creator Mike White is seemingly considering broadening his reality TV career even further with a third run on “The Amazing Race.”
The news comes after “White Lotus” star Sydney Sweeney revealed in an October 27 interview with Variety that she’d love to compete alongside White on the race-around-the-world reality series.
“Honestly, Mike and I would be a killer team,” Sweeney told the publication ahead of the release of her new boxing biopic “Christy” on Monday.
Mike White Thinks He Could Win ‘Amazing Race’ with Sweeney
White previously appeared on the series’ 14th and 18th seasons, joined by his father, Mel White. While the father-son duo were unable to claim the show’s million-dollar prize on either occasion, White responded to Sweeney’s comments with confidence in their team-up.
CBS/Getty“I would definitely win with her,” he told Variety. “She’s the master at getting what she wants. And I mean that in an absolutely good way.”
The unlikely partnership stems from Sweeney’s casting in Season 1 of “The White Lotus,” which, like “The Amazing Race,” has travelled all across the globe for its various installments.
Sweeney appeared on the HBO drama as Olivia Mossbacher, the “politically provocative” daughter of Connie Brighton’s high-powered executive character, Nicole, while the series was stationed in Hawaii.
While Sweeney has not reprised her role since the show’s debut season, subsequent seasons of the almost-anthology series have been set in Sicily and Thailand, with the upcoming fourth season set to be filmed in France.
Recalling his experience working with the rising star actress, White told Variety, “There was just something very unaffected by her. She was very likeable. And I thought that would be helpful because the part is so unlikeable on the page.”
“I don’t know what makes somebody a star,” White added. “But there is something about her that just is.”
Could a Future White-Sweeney ‘TAR’ Team-Up Really Happen?
For the time being, a potential celebrity team-up between White and Sweeney on “The Amazing Race” is little more than a pipe dream, especially considering both of their busy schedules.
In Sweeney’s case, her upcoming appearance in “Christy” is just one of many projects she has booked for the coming years. The newly-minted A-lister is similarly set to appear in the upcoming thriller “The Housemaid,” a feature film adaptation of the “Split Fiction” video game, and the highly anticipated third season of “Euphoria.”
