Tyler Hynes is a changed man. Until starring in the 2024 Hallmark blockbuster movie “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story,” the Canadian actor didn’t pay much attention to professional sports.
But on November 28, 2025, Hynes joked to EntertainmentNow that it’s almost “gross” how much he’s transformed into a “deep sports guy” over the last year and a half, from cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs with fervor to attending the last night of the World Series (supporting his hometown Toronto Blue Jays, of course). He even jetted off to Dallas on a whim after a special invitation to attend the Chiefs’ 2025 Thanksgiving game.
During a quick break from appearances at the Hallmark Christmas Experience in Kansas City, Hynes told EntertainmentNow that lately, he’s even felt inspired to carry the energy and camaraderie he’s witnessed among sports teams onto his movie sets.
Tyler Hynes Describes How His New Love of Football Has Changed Him
Operating on three hours sleep after flying to Kansas City from Dallas, Hynes pulled up a chair in a storage room for a quiet chat amid a day full of fan events at the Hallmark Christmas Experience. He marveled at how his involvement in the first “Holiday Touchdown” in 2024 has impacted him.
Being at the Chiefs game on Thanksgiving, he told EntertainmentNow, felt like a sort of “family reunion,” noting that “it was very, very fun to be on the field and be able to see old friends that I hadn’t seen in a while.”
Hynes and his “Holiday Touchdown” co-star Hunter King popped up in cameos in 2025’s “Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story,” which premiered this month on Hallmark Channel. He told EntertainmentNow that the chance to do a third football-themed movie would be “lovely.” But he’d want to bring the kind of energy he experiences on the sidelines of a Chiefs game.
“I do love football now,” he acknowledged. “It is kind of, like, gross how much I’ve transcended into this, like, deep sports guy. Like, you know, butt-patting my friends, ‘Good hustle in that scene!’ And I do love the atmosphere. I’m not even joking — I like watching Trav (Kelce) and Patrick (Mahomes) and all the players, like, hype each other up in this really funny, kind of cute energy-filling dynamic. I’m like, ‘Yeah, why can’t we do that on set?”
Of leaning into sports culture as a way to motivate others on-set, Hynes told EntertainmentNow, “I did it on the Chiefs movie because I saw it (with the team), and I was immersed in and I started doing it there. Where I’m like, even (clapping) after takes and, like, high fiving people for no reason. I like that.”
Tyler Hynes Explains the Wild Way He Wound Up at Thanksgiving Chiefs Game
Hynes, who stars in the 2025 holiday movies “Christmas Above the Clouds” and “Three Wisest Men,” totally fits the bill as a “deep sports fan” because he’s not just about the score, but about the rich relationships and sweet moments that have come from his dive into this world. But what Hynes loved most of all, he said, was how serendipitously the last-minute trip came together, thanks to a surprise invitation from Tammy Reid, wife of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
“I’m at home packing late at night to come here (to Kansas City) the next day, and then I go, ‘Oh, I wonder if the Chiefs are playing a game anytime soon,” Hynes explained. “So I open my phone. Tammy texts me, she’s watching my movie. She sends me a photo of the movie (on her screen).”
Hynes continued, “We start going back and forth, and she’s like, ‘You should come to Dallas.’ And I thought to myself, ‘Do you say no to Tammy Reid? Like, I’ve met Coach Reid a few times, and I have such reverence for this man. I’ve gotten to know him a little bit in person, but very much through all the various ways in which you watch coaches — at the games or in these documentary series that I watch. And you know, I have a respect and a fear of that man, and it (extends) to his wife.”
Not wanting to turn down the generous invitation, Hynes managed to switch his flights so that he could make a one-night stop in Dallas. He not only got to ride a team bus to the field, but he also hung out on the sideline and sat in the Reids’ suite, getting schooled on all things football by Tammy, which he loved.
Tyler Hynes Said Tammy Reid Taught Him Even More About Football During the Chiefs-Cowboys Game
GettyOf his connection with Tammy Reid, Hynes told EntertainmentNow, “I just love her. She’s already momming me so hard. I’ve learned a lot from her. She’s educated me deeply on this game.”
Though he’s learned the ins-and-outs of football from multiple people since filming the first “Holiday Touchdown,” Hynes revealed, “Yesterday, I probably learned more than I’d ever have about football just through the whole game. It was just me and her sitting next to each other, and she was just walking me
through every call, every referee call, every mistake that they may have made, how they write up afterwards their feelings about some of the calls. It’s almost like a report card for the referees.”
Hynes said he also loves learning about Coach Reid’s “psychology on some of these things, not just how he presents these things, but how he actually feels about them. It’s very fun. It’s like inside baseball — but football.”

I grew up with the hype of loving all levels of football, pro football, college football and the high school level. Today the Wisconsin Badgers plays the Minnesota Gophers. GO BADGERS!
