Is Meghan Markle a good cook? Prince Harry said one dish his wife made wasn’t quite as good as her mother’s version — but it was all in good fun. Watch Prince Harry playfully roast Markle during her Netflix holiday special.
Prince Harry Playfully Teases Meghan Markle’s Cooking
During the Netflix special, “With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration,” Markle was joined by celebrity chef Tom Colicchio to make gumbo.
Prince Harry called the dish a favorite, noting that he likes the way Markle’s mom makes it.
“Hi guys. I smell gumbo,” Harry said as he entered the room. “Gumbo, for me, is one of my favorites. Especially her mom’s … but before the fish goes in.”
Markle explained that her mom, Doria Ragland, makes the dish for Christmas Eve and “saves a portion on the side” for Harry.
“My mom does the turkey sausage for you, so this one has more kick to it,” she told Harry, offering him a towel in case the spices made him sweat.
After taking a bite, Prince Harry gave his review. “I can feel it puncturing through the top of my head right now,” he said. “It is delicious. I’m not so sure it’s as good as your mum’s, but it’s certainly close.”
Markle’s jaw dropped at his cheeky comment. “What?! Oh my God!” she said.
She added, “My mom will love you for that. You know what? What a good thing to say for your mother-in-law.”
“Exactly,” he replied.
Markle Shared a UK Holiday Tradition
During the special, Markle also highlighted a British tradition, making homemade Christmas crackers as a nod to her husband.
“Living in the UK, it’s such a part of [the culture] for Christmas holidays, for sure,” she noted.
Markle shared how people gather to pull the crackers apart. “Typically people cross arms and do it. So they sit around a table and they all pull at the same time,” she explained. “It actually does feel really connected and sweet.”
The Duchess of Sussex also tried her hand at a craft activity, painting festive holiday plates with tennis star Naomi Osaka.
“It’s important to always try things that we’re not so great at, which I should remind myself when I try to draw or get on a tennis court,” she explained.
“I am so painfully bad,” Markle said of her artistic talents.
She added, “No one needs to see it. It’s so bad.”

I adore the Duke & Duchess of Sussex
