One of CBS’s longest-running soap operas—“Guiding Light” alum Beth Chamberlin is sharing a health battle she kept private for months. The longtime soap star revealed she was diagnosed with early-stage endometrial cancer this fall and quietly underwent a complete hysterectomy.
In an emotional Instagram video, the Emmy-nominated star said she waited to speak publicly until she felt grounded enough to tell the story in her own way.
Inside the Diagnosis Chamberlin Kept Private Until Now
“I need to tell you something that I haven’t shared publicly. And even my family, except for my husband and son, didn’t know until today,” she began.
“In mid-October, I was diagnosed with early-stage endometrial cancer. And on November 21st, I had to have a complete hysterectomy. Today, my final pathology report came back. Stage 1A, no spread, no further treatment necessary. I am lucky.”
Chamberlin said she chose silence to protect her loved ones from fear and to process the diagnosis without added pressure or speculation.
She Says Healthy Habits Didn’t Shield Her: ‘Cancer Doesn’t Care’
The actress, who has also appeared on “Days of Our Lives,” said she has always prioritized clean eating and exercise. That lifestyle, however, offered no guarantees.
Cancer, she said, “doesn’t care or discriminate,” something she learned firsthand despite her commitment to wellness.
She added that she may never know why she developed the disease, but she is determined to push for greater awareness around early detection.
Chamberlin Plans to Share More: ‘My Hope Is That I Can Be a Source of Inspiration’
GettyChamberlin told fans she intends to speak more openly in the coming days about what she endured physically and emotionally, the difficulties she faced navigating the healthcare system, and even the lighter moments that helped her cope.
“Over the next few days, I’m also going to tell you about my journey through this, the mental tools that I used to get through it, the difficulty of navigating the healthcare system with my particular insurance until getting to my surgeon, who I am truly, truly grateful to have had,” she said.
“I’ll also tell you the funny parts, because there were those. I’ll tell you as much as I can.”
She encouraged anyone facing challenges to follow along. “My hope is that I can be a source of information and inspiration,” she added.
Her caption captured the heart of her message in just three words: “Tough times come.”
Fans Flood Her Comments With Support
Chamberlin said even some family members didn’t know about her diagnosis until she posted the video. Once she did, thousands of viewers filled her comments with gratitude, encouragement, and relief.
“So thankful you are okay!!! You are such an inspiration to me!! ❤️❤️,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Sharing such personal and intimate details is hard! You are so graceful and courageous! Thank you for sharing.”
Others offered prayers and thanks: “I am so sorry this happened and so thankful to God you are ok. You are so amazing and loved!”
As she continues recovery, the longtime soap star says she hopes her story reminds others to stay informed, seek answers early and know they are not alone.
