Soap Legend Fires Back at Shocking Exit Rumors After 45 Years

Veteran daytime television star Eric Braeden has taken to social media to address persistent speculation about his departure from “The Young and the Restless,” the long-running series that has defined his career for nearly five decades.

Recent internet chatter has suggested the 84-year-old performer might be considering retirement from his role as the business tycoon on the popular CBS soap opera. However, Braeden quickly moved to dispel these theories through a pointed social media statement that left no room for misinterpretation about his future plans.

The speculation appears to have originated from unofficial fan pages that published misleading headlines suggesting an imminent departure announcement. These unverified reports prompted concern among devoted viewers who have followed his character, Victor Newman, since 1980, when Braeden’s role was initially intended as a brief appearance.

Braeden has consistently maintained that leaving the series remains far from his current considerations, having previously stated that retirement simply isn’t part of his vocabulary or immediate future.

Social Media Statement Ends Speculation

Braeden addressed the rumors head-on through his official Facebook page, responding directly to a story that appeared on an unofficial fan page. When confronted with a headline claiming he had announced his official exit from The Young and the Restless, he responded emphatically with “SIMPLY NOT TRUE.” His decisive social media statement effectively put an end to the speculation.

The misleading headline that prompted his response had suggested he was saying goodbye to the show, creating unnecessary anxiety among loyal audience members. Braeden’s quick clarification prevented further spread of false information while reassuring fans about his continued presence as Victor Newman.

Previous interviews have shown his consistent position regarding retirement discussions. In 2022, he told Soap Opera Digest, “The word retirement is not in my vocabulary. It really is not. I am not just saying it blithely; I mean it.”

Braeden’s dedication to the role goes beyond personal enjoyment to include an awareness of his duty to the show’s global audience. According to TV Insider, he has expressed that driving to work gives him “a certain feeling of responsibility to do it as well as you can, and it gives you some joy as well.”

Reflecting on Legacy and Longevity

Braeden’s perspective on his career longevity includes considering the entertainment industry’s unpredictable nature. According to Soap Opera Digest, he has reflected on working with many colleagues who are no longer alive, noting, “Do you know how many people I’ve worked with, huge names, in the past, who are no longer with us? Now, admittedly, some of them were older, but some of them were not, and some of them were younger.”

He has expressed his view about actors’ importance to long-running shows, sharing his observations about industry ego. “And they all thought, without them, the show would not last! That’s one of the greatest delusions you can have. It’ll go on. Maybe not as successfully, but it’ll go on,” he explained.

Braeden continued his reflection on industry dynamics, stating, “You have no idea how many actors I’ve met in the course of my career who thought that without them, a certain series wouldn’t last. My ass! So it’s a combination of being proud of what you do, fiercely protective of what you do, but also modest in the sense that you know they can ax you. Audience may not like it, but they’ll get used to it!”

His appreciation for his ongoing employment in an industry known for its uncertainty has remained a driving force throughout his tenure. He has acknowledged being “a stubborn son of a [expletive]” who is “still here” while many contemporaries have retired or passed away.

Regarding his continued commitment to the role, Braeden has expressed genuine surprise at fan support for his longevity. “I am not saying this falsely modestly — it surprises me,” he shared with Soap Opera Digest. “Makes me very happy, though, to know it!”
