Veteran Actor, 82, Mourns Loss of Dear Costar

When Luke Perry passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from a stroke in 2019, his fans, loved ones, and former colleagues were left shocked. He was 52. Josh Taylor, a veteran actor who has worked in the entertainment industry for decades with appearances on soaps including “Days of Our Lives” and “The Young and the Restless,” has reflected on the loss of Perry, with whom he appeared alongside in the hit TV series “Beverly Hills, 91020.”

Remembering Luke Perry

Taylor played the role of Jack McKay, the father of Perry’s onscreen “Beverly Hills, 91020” character Dylan McKay. He opened up about working with him and his feelings surrounding his death in an interview on “That’s Classic.” He was asked what Perry was like, to which Taylor replied, “I can’t say enough about Luke, and he just again way too soon.”

In the interview, Taylor also revealed how he didn’t audition for the role of Jack, but the producers called his agent and informed them that they wanted him to play the role of Perry’s father. He also reflected on their first meeting over lunch. “We were talking and getting it off and then somebody said … apparently we were you know drinking our lemonade or whatever we were having at the time, and one guy said and talking the same, he said you realize you guys are doing the same thing with your hands and the whole deal.”

Taylor noted how quickly he and Perry “connected,” adding, “I can’t tell you enough about Luke. He was an extraordinary guy, and we had some incredible conversations, and during the time he was trying to decide whether to leave the show.”  He also referred to Perry as “such a good man” and “such a good actor.”

Taylor has nothing but praise for Perry and the experience of working with him. “We had a ball together, and we worked well together. We rehearsed well together,” he said. He also remembered that it was not just a professional relationship, but that they connected on a deeper level. “We would have some really good deep conversations about different things. And he was just wonderful,” he shared.

The interview was shared on YouTube, allowing fans to react to what Taylor had said. Many commented on how sweet he is or remembered him from their favorite soaps. There was also a comment about Perry.

“I never watched 90210, but always heard good things about Luke Perry.  Some actor I can’t remember who it was. Luke was always so gracious to the co-stars welcoming them aboard and making them feel like part of the team,” a fan wrote.  “That’s Classic,” responded, writing, “Never heard a bad word about Luke Perry.”
