Gwen Stefani couldn’t be having a better year. First, her band, No Doubt, announced it was reuniting to play at The Sphere in Las Vegas. But then she was asked to write a song for the new holiday film, “Oh. What. Fun.” The singer has two songs in the movie: “Shake the Snow Globe” and “Hot Cocoa.”
On December 3, the former longtime coach of “The Voice” appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and admitted that this was the first time she was asked to write a song for a film, and she “was very flattered.” She also revealed that her father was pretty excited, as well, because he has a crush on the film’s star, Michelle Pfeiffer.
Gwen Stefani’s Dad Hilariously Stalks Her, Hoping to Meet Michelle Pfeiffer
“I swear my dad was stalking me,” Stefani told Fallon. “Like, every time I’d go in the studio, ‘Is Michelle [Pfeiffer] gonna be there?’ I’m like, ‘I’m going to the studio.”
After meeting the iconic actress, the “Hollaback Girl” singer could understand the draw. “She’s so beautiful and everything. Cool, all of it,” she said. But at the same time, her dad’s interest surprised her.”It’s like, ‘What about mom?” Stefani said, referring to her mother, Patti.
Her parents celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 11 this year. She has frequently talked about how close she is with her parents, and told Clash in 2016 that “We were kind of like the most idealistic family that you could imagine.”
When she and Blake Shelton got married in 2021, Stefani found a special way to honor her parents’ long marriage. She commissioned Fancy Cakes by Lauren to recreate their wedding cake. The gorgeous five-tier cake included cherubs, white swan pillars, and sugar flowers. The bakery posted the finished product on Instagram.
Gwen Stefani Unpacks No Doubt’s Sold-Out Sphere Residency
Along with her newfound joy of writing Christmas songs, Stefani is thrilled for No Doubt’s shows at The Sphere next year. The band initially had 12 dates scheduled, but they sold out so fast that they added six more.
“We’re excited. We did Coachella, and it was so unbelievably amazing. It was amazing. And we were kind of talking for a while. We do everything slow, it seems like,” she laughed. “But we were talking for years, again, and trying to find that thing that would be as good, you know? And I think The Sphere is the future. It’s kind of a cross between a concert and a movie.”
“I want people to come and make it feel really nostalgic,” she added. “Like they’re back in time, like ‘Remember this? Remember this, guys? Like, this is what we did together.”
