As season 28 of “The Voice” winds down, with the two-night finale set to air on December 15 and 16, 2025, NBC is already gearing up for the next season — and it’s going to look a lot different than fans are used to.
As previously reported, season 29 will be a “Battle of Champions” between just three coaches instead of four — Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend — who have all won at least one season in the past. But according to E! News, there will also be new rules and challenges when the season premieres on February 23, 2026.
‘The Voice’ Season 29 Coaches Will Compete For ‘Super Steal’
GettyAmong the changes coming to “The Voice,” E! News reported that, for the first time ever, the coaches will compete against each other in a “Triple Turn Competition.” During the Blind Auditions, Clarkson, Legend, and Levine will try to score the most three-chair turns.
The coach who secures the most contestants from those three-chair turns will earn a “Super Steal” to use in the Battles, which will let them “veto other coaches’ attempt to recruit an artist,” the outlet reported.
Meanwhile, during the Knockouts, Clarkson, Legend, and Levine will also get to each bring two artists back from their former teams.
will also bring back two artists from their former teams during the knockouts for head-to-head sing-offs. The coach with the most sing-off wins is guaranteed a second season 29 finalist.
Other Changes Coming to ‘The Voice’ in 2026
GettyIn November, NBC announced that the one-hour premiere of “The Voice: Battle of Champions” will showcase a “major revamp to the longstanding format,” with “powerhouse coaches who form the only panel in the show’s history comprised entirely of ‘Voice’ winners.”
The network also revealed a big schedule shake-up, revealing that the first three nights of the Blind Auditions would air all in one week — on February 23 at 9 p.m., February 25 at 8 p.m., and March 2 at 8 p.m., all Eastern time. The auditions were filmed in July, so the featured artists will have waited over seven months for their performances to air.
According to NBC Insider, each coach will end their Blind Auditions with a team of 10 singers. While they will go through familiar rounds — Blinds, Battles, Knockouts, Semi-Finals, and the Finale — there will be multiple curveballs throughout the season.
For instance, CeeLo Green — an original coach on “The Voice” — will return for season 29 during the knockouts round, according to Deadline. In a new twist, each coach gets to bring back two fan-favorite artists from their teams in previous seasons. Those artists will compete in an “In-Season All-Star Competition,” with Green helping to determine a winner. The coach “with the most sing-off wins is guaranteed a second finalist in the finale,” Deadline reported.

EWWWW Ce-low Green
Agreed!
I’ve watched The Voice since day one. It was always fun and exciting. But now with all the changes and shorter season, it’s just not that good anymore. I doubt I’ll much much more of it
I love this show. I will continue to watch it. Do not like Blake Shelton new show, The Road. He should have came back for the Champions show. His loss
Not liking these changes, so not interested in watching. Bring back ‘original’ set up and interesting judges-(love these current 4). The Voice contestants sre prime focus, not the judges at all.
It’s hard to keep up with the irregular scheduling. I’m waiting to see how the end of this season goes before I decide whether I’ll continue watching the show. I was disappointed with last season’s results, so this season was a second chance. I wish Blake Shelton were in the coach line-up.
