Bravo’s “Southern Charm” season 11 saw Charleston socialite Patricia Altschul opening up about the passing of her cherished dog, Chauncey, on the Dec. 3 episode.
Back in 2015, viewers watched as Altschul was gifted the precious pug by her son, Whitney Sudler-Smith, whom she called her “grandson.” Ever since then, Chauncey had made occasional appearances on the series, making the cast and fans adore him. The heartfelt moment certainly resonated with many fans.
Patricia Altschul Reflects on the Passing of Her Beloved Dog Chauncey
On the Dec. 3 episode of “Southern Charm,” Patricia Altschul FaceTimed her son, Whitney Sudler-Smith, to show him the plaque she had made for her dog, Chauncey, who sadly passed away.
In a confessional, Altschul held back tears as she shared that Chauncey had “a neurological illness and developed breathing problems” before passing away at the age of 10 last year. “I just adored him,” she added.
The episode then highlighted the many memories Altschul shared with Chauncey, including a clip from when she first got him as a puppy in 2015 and the times she loved dressing him up.
Speaking to Sudler-Smith, Altschul shared that she was considering having bagpipe players perform “Amazing Grace” during Chauncey’s burial. Of course, that comes as no surprise, given Altschul’s penchant for grand and elaborate gestures.
Altschul Shared the Heartbreaking Loss of Chauncey on Instagram
In November 2024, Altschul announced the passing of Chauncey. She took to Instagram to share several photos and videos of her beloved pooch, including snapshots of him playing with her other dogs like Princess Peaches and Monty, and a photo of herself wearing one of her famous kaftans adorned with Chauncey’s face. In fact, Chauncey even graced the cover of Altschul’s 2017 book, “The Art of Southern Charm.”
The photos also included that of her former butler, Michael Kelcourse, holding Chauncey. Sadly, Kelcourse had passed away just a month before.
She captioned her sweet images, “We had to say goodbye to our beloved Chauncey. RIP to the sweetest pug. 🐾💔.”
After making the announcement, Altschul’s post was flooded with messages of support from both her “Southern Charm” co-stars and fans alike.
“So glad I was able to bring him to one last party on camera,” Austen Kroll wrote. “He was always my favorite. Great dog, better friend.” Former “Southern Charm” star Cameran Eubanks Wimberly shared, “Oh Pat, I’m so sorry. I know Michael was there at the rainbow bridge to greet Chauncey with open arms.”
