Padma Lakshmi, the Emmy-nominated food television host and longtime face of Bravo’s “Top Chef,” is turning heads again. At 55, she shared a striking lingerie portrait that sparked conversation not just for its beauty, but for the emotional reflection she paired with it about art, vulnerability, and entering a new season of her life.
Padma’s Empowering Photoshoot With A Message
“I don’t know why, but for some reason this painting seems more provocative than any of the other modeling I’ve ever done in lingerie,” Lakshmi wrote. “Perhaps it’s because through Marilyn’s eyes I feel more exposed? But then that’s what great artists do—they expose the truth.”
GettyThen came the line that resonated with thousands: “Maybe that’s it? We aren’t used to women enjoying themselves without the gaze or touch of men.”
Celebrating 55 With Bikini Photos and a New Chapter
A few months earlier, Lakshmi marked her 55th birthday with a joyful beach post that quickly went viral.
“I’m so grateful for this last year around the sun,” she wrote, sharing photos and a video of herself in a dark pink bikini as she laughed in the waves with her chihuahua, Divina.
GettyShe also reflected on a personal milestone: watching her daughter, Krishna, begin high school. “I’ve been pivoting and plotting the next phase of my life — and it’s here now,” she said.
Lakshmi then revealed she is developing a brand-new show. “As I celebrate this birthday, I’m so thankful I’m about to create a new show, all my own,” she wrote. “This coming year will be full of blessings too.”
Her Daughter Inspires Her Boldness: ‘Dress More Provocatively‘
In a recent Vogue India feature, Lakshmi and Krishna appeared together as cover stars. There, Lakshmi revealed that her daughter often encourages her confidence.
According to Lakshmi, her teen is “always telling me to dress more provocatively.”
She also told People that she wants Krishna to see womanhood as something expansive and evolving. “I want her to see womanhood in all its stages, so I’m very free with my body at home,” she said. “I’m also very honest and blunt with her, but I always have been in an age-appropriate way.”
A Message to Younger Women: ‘It Just Gets Better‘
Lakshmi has also continued expanding her work as an author. Her bestselling memoir Love, Loss, and What We Ate and her cookbook Tangy, Tart, Hot and Sweet remain reader favorites, and she recently added another title to her shelf with Tomatoes for Neela, a children’s book she wrote with her daughter in mind.
The project reflects the same values she champions in her public life: cultural pride, nurturing the next generation and celebrating the joy found in food and family.
Lakshmi has also become a vocal advocate for embracing aging rather than fearing it.
“I’m here to tell younger women that you shouldn’t be afraid of aging,” she said. “You shouldn’t be afraid that time is running out. You should know that it just gets better and better and better because you learn from life. You become experienced.”
Whether she’s posing for an intimate portrait or sprinting into the ocean in a bright bikini, Lakshmi’s message remains steady. Joy belongs to women at every stage, and confidence doesn’t fade with age, it deepens.
