Chip and Joanna Gaines‘ daughter Ella seems to be following in her mom’s design footsteps. The HGTV stars’ daughter is bringing her talents to the new show “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House.” Learn more about Ella’s experience and passion for design.
Chip & Joanna Gaines’ Daughter Ella Puts Her Design Talents to Work
On their new series, “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House,” Chip and Joanna’s 19-year-old daughter Ella is tasked with an exciting project — designing a cottage.
In a trailer for the show, Joanna notes, “Chip had an idea to let our daughter design the little cottage.” Ella enters the space and says, “I’m accepting the challenge.”
Ella has already got some experience and passion for design, which Joanna wrote about in a November 2025 Magnolia blog post.
“ELLA’S TURN: Over the past few years, Ella has really come into her own when it comes to developing her own personal style,” Joanna wrote.
She continued, “I love her eye, so I asked her to design the small cottage adjacent to the main house. It was so sweet to share this experience with her before she went off to college.”
During an August 2025 “Today” show interview, Joanna was asked if she would be involved in helping Ella decorate her dorm room at Parsons School of Design. The “Fixer Upper” star shared that she was letting her daughter head up that project.
“She is very into design and she has her own unique style, so I stepped back,” Joanna explained. “And I let her do the whole thing. So, it was really what she wanted.”
Ella also worked as an intern on the Magnolia Team, where she no doubt got plenty of mentoring from her very talented mom.
During a 2025 interview with Dennis Scully for the “Business of Home” podcast, Joanna explained, “One of my favorite moments that was so pivotal for me as a mother, but also as a business owner, was my daughter, my oldest daughter, was in on a lot of these conversations before our break in June, that I was having with the team.”
The Magnolia empire owner shared, “She was interning with me, so she’d be in these meetings where I was like, y’all, I need vision. Like, we need to get back to why we’re doing what we’re doing. And so she was listening and she was interested.”
