Chip and Joanna Gaines return to HGTV with their new series, “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House.” Learn more about the home, where it’s located, and how the couple is renovating it for a very special reason.
‘Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House’ Is a New Adventure for Chip & Joanna Gaines
Chip and Joanna are tackling a huge project in “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House,” premiering on December 9.
The three-part series will follow Chip and Joanna’s renovation journey as they transform the 1960s mountain home into the ultimate family retreat.
Located in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, the property includes a main house with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a powder room, a wrap-around deck, and river access. There are also two guest cottages located along the main driveway.
In a December post on the Magnolia blog, Joanna shared how the Gaines family ended up buying a home so far from Waco, Texas.
“Over the last decade, Colorado has become a home away from home for our family,” Joanna wrote. “Between yearly ski trips and spring break getaways, we fell in love with the mountains, the rivers, and the abundance of fresh air — and somewhere along the way started to wonder if Colorado was meant to be a bigger part of our family’s future.”
She continued, “As Chip is known to do, he started looking at real estate — casually — until he stumbled upon this house nestled in the Rocky Mountains.”
The Magnolia empire owner shared how she and Chip instantly fell in love with the property’s potential as their family vacation home.
“From the moment we pulled into the long driveway, it immediately felt like we’d found far more than what we’d been looking for. It had good bones, the right square footage, but mostly, it felt like a home away from home — one that even our extended families could get away to.”
“While we knew that saying ‘yes’ to a major renovation project outside of Texas (our first!) would require being stretched beyond our comfort zone, we had a feeling taking on this fixer upper would be worth it in the end,” she wrote. “We can’t wait to share this project with you in the coming weeks!”
Their daughter Ella also makes her design debut on the show.
“Chip had an idea to let our daughter design the little cottage,” Joanna says in the trailer. Ella responds, “I’m accepting the challenge.”
There’s plenty of work to be done to turn it into their dream vacation home. “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House” premieres December 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV and Magnolia Network and streams the same day on discovery+ and HBO Max.
Joanna Gaines Drew Design Inspiration From the Natural Setting
In the blog post, the Magnolia team shared some of the details of the mountain house’s renovation. “During their initial walk-through,” Chip and Joanna “realized the home would need some restructuring to maximize space and optimize flow for their family,” the blog post notes.
“So, they worked with local experts, including a skilled contractor, to help bring their vision to life and be their ‘boots on the ground’ throughout the entire renovation process,” the team explained.
Joanna’s design choices “blend with the surroundings of this charming mountain home” and include “refined yet rustic woodwork mixed with European cottage-inspired colors, textures, and patterns for an all-around cozy feel.”
She also incorporates “masculine and feminine, old and new” styles in the home.
For viewers hoping to replicate the beautiful natural colors she uses in the home, KILZ released the Mountain House Collection by Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Paint.
“A collection of 6 warm and inviting colors that have been curated for Chip and Joanna’s latest project, ‘Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House,'” KILZ shared on social media. The paint collection is available at Ace Hardware stores.
