If Prince Harry really wants to follow in his wife’s footsteps and star in a Hallmark Channel movie like Meghan Markle did just before they met, the network’s stars and execs say they’d love to talk.
On December 3, 2025, the Duke of Sussex made a surprise appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” claiming — as the crowd gave his entrance a standing ovation — that he thought he was there “to audition for ‘The Gingerbread Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska.” Multiple Hallmark stars have since weighed in on the British royal’s skit.
Prince Harry Quipped That He’d Do ‘Anything’ to Star in a Hallmark Movie
Colbert joked in his monologue about Hallmark Christmas movies being unrealistic, complaining about how rare it is to run into an actual prince and then fall in love and even sharing a clip from Hallmark’s 2025 movie “A Royal Montana Christmas.”
“As much as I do love these holiday movies,” Colbert said, “I think they’re problematic because they give people the unrealistic expectation that during the holiday season, they’re going to just bump into some prince at their job.”
Harry, 41, suddenly walked out onstage as the audience went wild, telling Colbert he wanted nothing more than to become a Hallmark star, marveling at how Americans are “obsessed with Christmas movies.” Adding that he’d do “anything” to get in front of Hallmark decision-makers, he said, “I’ll record a self-tape, I’ll fly myself to an audition, I’ll settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House, all the things you people in TV do!”
“Listen, what’s a real prince got to do to get into a Hallmark movie?” he quipped, and when Colbert asked what he could do, Prince Harry responded, “I’ve got skills. I can ride a horse. I can fly a helicopter. I can ride a horse in a helicopter.”
GettyColbert then mused that in Hollywood, “It’s all about who you know — do you have a personal connection to any famous TV actresses?”
The audience laughed loudly at that question, given that in May 2018, Harry married Markle, an American actress who starred on the TV series “Suits” and in the Hallmark movie “Dater’s Handbook” (opposite Kristoffer Polaha) just before the couple began dating.
“I’m sorry, Harry,” Colbert told him with a smirk. “You seem like a nice enough guy, but real life is not like those TV movies. I don’t run a nonprofit bed-and-breakfast/candy cane factory with my three beautiful daughters, Holly, Tinsel and Popcorn String. At least not since the bank foreclosed on it last Christmas Eve, leaving me so cynical that only a chance encounter with a prince could ever redeem my faith in the holidays.”
As snow began to fall around them, just like in magical Hallmark movie moment, Colbert told him, “Harry, I know you want this, but I’m afraid to say I was testing you, you’ve got the role,” and declared him the “official ‘Late Show’ prince of Christmas.”
Hallmark Channel Tells Prince Harry ‘You’re Hired!’ & Stars Weigh In
When “Late Show With Stephen Colbert” tagged Hallmark Channel in a social media post featuring the funny skit, the network replied in the comments, “Prince Harry, how did you know we were looking for a horse-riding helicopter-flying American Hallmark Prince? No audition needed, you’re hired!” The comment drew over 7,000 likes.
Multiple real-life Hallmark stars also weighed in with comments, including Rachel Boston, amusingly referenced her 2020 movie, “A Christmas Carousel,” by writing, “Does he also have a carousel that needs to be repaired by chance?! 🎠✨”
Jonathan Bennett hilariously quipped, “We have our first contestant for @findingmrchristmas Season 3”
“Sister Swap” star and “Nashville 9-1-1” actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley wrote, “get the guy a role! 😂”
“A Newport Christmas” star Ginna Claire Mason shared the video in her Instagram Stories and wrote, “This is very funny 😆” and tagged Hallmark Channel.
As for a royal script, Hallmark screenwriter Nina Weinman Swift, who’s penned dozens of movies including 2025’s “We Met in December,” wrote in her Instagram Stories, “Already writing it.”
Benjamin Ayres Marvels That Prince Harry Was ‘Really Good’ in Skit
HallmarkBenjamin Ayres, who stars in 2025’s “An Angel Christmas Match” and hosts Hallmark’s new Christmas special airing on December 6, told EntertainmentNow that he was impressed with Harry’s acting skills.
“It was amazing,” Ayres said after watching the video, marveling, “He’s a really good actor. He was really good in that sketch, right? Like, he nailed the tone of it. He didn’t even start laughing. I say (Hallmark), make it happen!”
Ayres appeared in several episodes of “Suits” after Markle left the series to become a princess, he said. His season eight recurring role was filmed with the cast during the week before they went to the royal wedding and the week after they returned.
He recalled, “Listening to the hair and makeup and wardrobe and everybody talk about being just, you know, at the service, and being in England, the whole thing. They just said it was a lot and amazing and crazy, and just like all the things you’d imagine.”

Hey why not have Harry do a holiday Hallmark movie.
Why not let Harry play a prince in a Hallmark movie, considering is a real prince by birth.
Please, please, do not have Harry or Megan do movies on our Hallmark. They are controversial figures who are in deep with seeking out media and attention, and definitely NOT in a good way! I respect that Hallmark has always chosen wholesome, entertaining and above board selections for their moviies. I am a historical patron of Hallmark since their beginning of time. I truly am not being judgemental, but factual.
I sure DON’T want to see a Harry movie
You’re so right! Megan wasn’t that good(I watched her movie, meh!) Just because they’re ‘ royalty’ doesn’t make them decent actors!
So true.
You are being very judgmental! Meaghan was a Hallmark star before she met Harry. For her it would be coming home! They both have tried to move on with their lives and continue to do lots of philanthropic things to help the people that need help. They don’t want their children raised as royals which is their choice as parents. Get over it and let them live their lives!
It will be the one Hallmark movie I NEVER watch
