Hallmark star Mae Whitman has compared her latest role in “Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas” to the part that her friend Lauren Graham played in “Gilmore Girls.” The actor explained that being involved in the project was a “Hollywood fairy tale” and likened it to what Graham experienced when she portrayed Lorelai Gilmore in the acclaimed comedy-drama series.
Mae Whitman Discusses ‘Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas’ Role
In an interview with People to promote “Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas” –with the first two episodes in the season airing on Friday December 5 – Whitman spoke about the joys of taking part in the production and how she feels it compares to what Graham went through when filming “Gilmore Girls.”
She said, “It’s infinitely freeing to be on a project where you don’t feel like something’s out to get you, or you have to be over-revving your engine, or trying to give something that you don’t have. It really makes a big difference.”
“It’s like, my best friend Lauren, she was on Gilmore Girls, obviously, and that was like — it’s obviously the Mecca of that [fairy-tale] feeling,” Whitman explains. “It’s nice to get a little slice of that in my own professional life, where I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m in this little nice world where I can just sort of let go for one second, and just be among the twinkly lights.'”

This unexpected relationship puts all of Kate’s plans into chaos and also makes life more difficult for her father, portrayed by Nathaniel Parker, who has begun dating a widow played by Seymour.
The story is adapted directly from Jenni Bayliss’ 2020 novel, “The Twelve Dates of Christmas.”
