After hosting the Rockefeller tree lighting ceremony in 2023 and 2024, Kelly Clarkson isn’t hosting in 2025. And that’s because country superstar and “The Voice” coach Reba McEntire is set to host it!
This holiday season, the beloved Rockefeller Center tree-lighting tradition returns to television. As previously reported, Kelly Clarkson may be taking a break from the special given the stressful year she’s just been through.
The 2025 special — a two-hour live broadcast that combines family tradition, music, and holiday cheer — airs Wednesday, December 3 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC (also streaming on Peacock).
McEntire Loves the Christmas Season
Ahead of the event, McEntire appeared on the “TODAY” show on Monday, Dec. 1, and she briefly talked about hosting the event.
She surprisingly said this was her first trip to New York City during the holiday season.
“I’ve never been in New York at Christmas time, so I’m really thrilled about that,” she said. “And getting everybody together. It’s a joyful, thankful time, and lots of love.
The 70-year-old added, “One of my favorite times of the year.”
She’ll not only emcee but also perform, delivering her own holiday flair alongside the night’s stars. Hosting this historic event adds to her already busy schedule — she is currently a coach on Season 28 of “The Voice” and stars in the sitcom “Happy’s Place.”
McEntire told the hosts, “I absolutely love Christmas songs.”
She also surprised fans on Tuesday, Dec. 2 as she released another Chirstmas song.
“Surprise! I couldn’t just release one Christmas song this year… ‘Let There Be Peace On Earth’ is out now. This song and its lyrics feel more powerful today than ever,” she wrote.
She also released a cover of “Run Run Rudolph” last month. It the announcement she was seen decorating her tree as she got into the festive spirit. “It’s time to decorate… and I’ve got your soundtrack covered!!!” she told fans.
In addition to all of that, she has released numerous Christmas albums over the years.
What to Know: Tree, Traditions, and Live Performance
This year’s tree is a 75-foot Norway Spruce from East Greenbush, New York, according to the Rockefeller Center.
It has over 50,000 multicolored LED lights. On top sits a three-dimensional Swarovski star — a seasonal symbol millions know and love. The tree will be lit through mid-January 2026.
The special doesn’t stop at decorations.
Audiences can expect a dazzling lineup of performances from major stars across genres, including Marc Anthony, Michael Bublé, Halle Bailey, Brad Paisley, Carly Pearce, Gwen Stefani, and more.
The iconic Radio City Rockettes — celebrating their 100th anniversary — will also bring their signature holiday routine to the stage.
