Jelly Roll recently underwent a major transformation, losing 200 pounds.

And he opened up about it during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience on Dec. 10, specifically going into detail about some health challenges that led to the change. Jelly Roll admitted that he had “multiple heart issues,” even going as far as to say he “could feel myself dying.”

“I started really considering taking the step to try to make a major change in my life,” he said on the podcast. “I thought about it around my birthday ‘cause I knew my next one was 40. You know what, I don’t think I’ve ever met a 500-pound 40-year-old.”

“It felt like I’d already cheated the game. I’d had multiple heart issues,” Jelly Roll continued. “I was like, man, I should really start trying to figure this out. I could feel myself dying.”

During his time on The Joe Rogan Experience, Jelly Roll also received an incredible honor.

Host Joe Rogan surprised the musician with a message from Craig Morgan, inviting him to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Jelly Roll shared a clip of this moment on his Instagram with a heartfelt message.

“I don’t even know what to say right now y’all,” he wrote. “They invited me to be a member of the Opry. CRAIG MORGAN INVITED ME TO BE A MEMBER OF THE OPRY!!!! I’m honored beyond words and I can’t stop pinching myself. To everyone at the Opry, y’all are like family to me. “I sleep better, I walk better, I talk better … I have more energy,” he detailed, adding that “I’m nicer. “I was a mean, fat person. I was a cocky, arrogant, fat [expletive].”

It was a change he was very happy to make.

“Like what? It’s crazy. Somebody was like, ‘You’re going to get a six-pack and turn into a monster,’ Jelly Roll detailed. “I was like, ‘I’m actually becoming a way better human.’ I don’t hate my life as much. You know what I mean?”

“After I lost my parents, I genuinely felt … I would never feel that kind of love for anyone ever again. I thought that was it … until I saw the scan of [Eric] for the first time,” he said during a 2021 appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” “From that moment I saw the scan, I was like ‘That is it, I’m besotted.’ Now, I cannot imagine my life without him.”

He’s Named After Simon’s Father

Eric was named after his grandfather and Simon’s father, Eric Selig Phillip Cowell. Simon and Eric were extremely close, and his death in 1999 devastated him.

“I went to Germany for a big conference,” he said on “The Diary of a CEO” podcast in 2024. “I did a big presentation and after some great news I called home. I knew something wasn’t right, I could just tell. I think someone said to my mum, ‘don’t tell Simon while he is there.'”

“I would have swapped all my success to keep him around,” the “America’s Got Talent” judge added. “They were my best friends, I told them everything. It’s like how I feel for Eric, it’s pure love.”

Simon Found New Purpose After Deep Depression

Simon’s mother, Julia, was able to meet and spend time with Eric, but she died a year later. The realization that both of his parents were gone hit him hard. He described himself as going through the motions of work and life, yet feeling as if nothing mattered.

“Particularly when I lost my mom, I was on a downward spiral at that point,” Cowell admitted.

While Simon said that he still has struggles with depression, becoming a father gave him a new perspective on life.

“It changed everything in my life. It made me happy again,” he said.

“I remember the first time I watched “[The] Jungle Book” with him, and I’m looking over and seeing the joy he had watching that movie,” he continued. “It was like, ‘Oh my God, I remember how I felt when I saw “The Jungle Book.”

“Without question [my son Eric saved me],” he admitted.

Eric Was Born on Valentine’s Day

“Very happy to say Eric was born at 17:45pm,” Simon tweeted after Eric was born on February 14, 2014. Healthy and handsome.”

Two days later, he posted the first photo of Eric, writing, “…. now you can see how very handsome little Eric is.”

“I was born to be a dad,” Simon told “Extra TV” in his first interview after Eric was born. He explained how he had spoken to Lauren the morning of February 14. While she was in the U.S., he was in Britain filming “Britain’s Got Talent.” A couple of hours later, Lauren called him to say that she was in labor.

“So we had to find a flight, and I got there with two hours to spare,” he said.

He Has a Big Brother, Adam

While Eric is Lauren and Simon’s first child, she has a son, Adam, with her ex-husband, Andrew Silverman. Born in 2006, he’s eight years older than Eric. Adam isn’t in the spotlight as much as his little brother, but he does show up in family photos.

“Now [he’s] decided he’s going to audition for “Britain’s Got Talent,” Simon told “Entertainment Tonight” in 2023. I think he wants to be in a rock band. He loves Green Day.” He also revealed that Eric already plays the drums.

Season 6 “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks has built a stunning career, but a health issue almost derailed her rise to fame. In an interview clip ABC News shared on December 10th, 2025, Sparks recalled suffering a vocal cord injury back in 2008. “Honestly, I didn’t even know that that existed until it happened to me,” she explained of the vocal cord hemorrhaging she experienced. “But it makes sense when you kind of look at it.”

According to Sparks, the sheer volume of singing she did as a contestant and on the subsequent “American Idol” tour, combined with some poor habits, made the injury more likely. “I wasn’t warming up, I wasn’t eating right, I wasn’t getting much sleep,” she admitted. She has since recovered, but the injury could have had a very different outcome.

Sparks Could Have Suffered Permanent Damage

One of the most stunning aspects of Sparks’ “Idol” win was her age. The singer was just 17 when she auditioned, making her one of the youngest winners ever. In 2008, Sparks would still have been a teen, making the injury especially tragic and potentially career-changing. In speaking with ABC News at the time, Dr. Peter Catalano shared just how high the stakes were for Sparks. “It may change your ability to sing certain types of songs,” he said. “Or potentially, if it’s really bad, affect your ability to sing altogether.”

The doctor went on to explain that location makes a huge difference with these types of injuries and would influence Sparks’s overall prognosis. “Depending on where on the vocal chord [the blister] is and how big it is, really determines how it affects one’s voice and whether or not it would be dangerous to someone’s career,” he said. Sparks was placed on bed rest by her medical team, which was an important first step in the healing process.

She Learned an Important Lesson From the Experience

Sparks has come a long way since her 2008 injury, but she hasn’t forgotten the important lesson it taught her. “It taught me that you really have to take care of yourself,” she explained to ABC News. The singer has gone on to make beautiful music over the years, with her newest album, “No Restrictions,” hitting shelves in September 2024.

Multi-talented Sparks also has plenty of other projects on the horizon. As she shared in her ABC News interview, fans can catch her in a new Christmas movie during the 2025 holiday season. Changes Coming to 2026 Celebration

Besides the biggest lineup ever, we are going to see some other record-breaking moments this year. The New Year’s Eve celebration will also feature the first-ever live Central Time Zone countdown from Chicago. It will also be the longest in the show’s history, with an additional 90 minutes of programming scheduled.

The show will kick off in New York with “American Idol” host, Seacrest, and his co-host Rita Ora. The party will continue through Las Vegas, Chicago, Puerto Rico, and beyond. It all takes place on Wednesday, December 31, from 8:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. EST on ABC.

Coverage in Chicago will be led by Chance the Rapper, the former coach on “The Voice.” In Las Vegas, we will see the return of NFL legend Rob Gronkowski, who will co-host alongside “Dancing With the Stars” co-host Julianne Hough. Details for the Puerto Rico celebration have not been released yet.

“Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” kicks off live on Wednesday, December 31, at 8/7c on ABC. The special will be available to stream on Hulu the next day.

He referred to his father as both a “hero and a best friend.” He continued, “I’m not quite sure what it’ll be like yet because we haven’t been there to experience a Christmas without him. But we’ll certainly honor him.”

The family intends to keep their traditions alive to honor Gary’s memory. “We’ll keep our traditions of making a Caesar salad that he always used to love to do. Pour a little glass of red wine, his favorite, and toast to him,” Seacrest said. “It’ll be a special Christmas.”

Ryan Seacrest Mourns His Father 

Seacrest announced his father’s passing in an Instagram post on October 31. He shared two sweet family photos and two pictures of himself and Gary, including a throwback to when Ryan was a child. In the caption, he shared his thoughts. “It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week,” he wrote. “My mom, sister, and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering.  We are heartbroken.”

Boyer Bryan Kept Them Afloat During Her Husband’s Early Career

Bryan has built plenty of wealth and fame over the years, but show business success doesn’t happen overnight. As People reported, it was actually his wife who kept their household finances in line early in his career. During an appearance on the “Pickler & Ben” podcast, the singer gave Boyer Bryan credit for supporting him after they tied the knot. “When we got married, her career supported me when I was making about $10,000 a year,” he said. “She was the one bringing in the dough.”

They have certainly come a long way since then, and Bryan has found success on “American Idol” and with his music career. Together, they have raised five children, including their biological sons Bo and Tate. Bryan and Boyer Bryan also stepped in to care for the singer’s sister’s children after she passed away unexpectedly. Nineteen years of marriage is a huge accomplishment, and the couple seems as united as ever.
