Jelly Roll is healthier and happier than ever as he continues along his weight loss journey. The former “American Idol” season 23 artist-in-residence also experienced a huge change in his attitude with the weight loss, confessing that he’s “becoming a way better human.”
Jelly Roll Admits That He Was ‘Mean’ & ‘Arrogant’ Before Weight Loss
Jelly Roll is opening up about his weight loss journey, as he’s now lost over 200 pounds. He’s experiencing the physical rewards of slimming down, but also says he’s seen a shift in attitude.
During a November 2025 appearance on “The Hot Hits With Nic & Loren,” Jelly Roll was asked about some of the ways his life has changed since losing weight.
“I sleep better, I walk better, I talk better … I have more energy,” he shared.
Jelly Roll continued, “I’m nicer,” admitting that his personality was quite different before his weight loss.
“I was a mean, fat person. I was a cocky, arrogant, fat [expletive],” he said.
The singer explained, “Like what? It’s crazy. Somebody was like, ‘You’re going to get a six-pack and turn into a monster.’ I was like, ‘I’m actually becoming a way better human.’ I don’t hate my life as much. You know what I mean?”
Jelly Roll Achieves Big Weight Loss Milestone, Shares Upcoming Goals
In July, Jelly Roll revealed that he was getting close to seeing a number on the scale he hadn’t seen in a long time.
During an interview on the July 24 episode of the “What’s Your Story” podcast, the singer said that he was approaching a big weight loss milestone.
“A lot of my food addiction … was about the young man,” he explained. “Because I got fat really young. Like, really, really young.”
Jelly Roll continued, “I was over 300 pounds coming out of middle school. I’m gonna be under 300 pounds for the first time since middle school the night I walk to that ring at [WWE] SummerSlam.”
“That’s an exclusive here,” the singer added, “I haven’t said that nowhere. My goal, for the first time since middle school, I will be under 300 pounds … for the first time since I was … we’re talking about literally now, 30 years.”
The singer also shared a couple of his upcoming goals — posing for a Men’s Health magazine cover in the next year and doing a “shirt off cover in ’27.”
