Reba McEntire had fans doing a double-take on Monday’s “Today” show after Savannah Guthrie accidentally referred to Rex Linn as the country star’s “husband.” “The Voice” coach didn’t miss a beat, jumping in to clarify that she and Linn haven’t tied the knot just yet, and she wasn’t about to let viewers, or her family, think they’d missed a secret wedding.
‘We’re Just Engaged’
McEntire appeared on the “Today” show on Monday, December 1, to talk about her various projects, including season 2 of her sitcom, “Happy’s Place.” On that series, she co-stars with her real-life fiancé, Rex Linn.
During the interview, Guthrie said, “You also met your husband there. So Rex, good ole Rex…”
That is when Reba jumped in to correct Guthrie on her choice of words. Reba joked, “Now, wait a minute. Before everybody has a conniption fit at home, we’re just engaged.”
While Guthrie apologized for her incorrect wording, Reba wanted to clear the air, saying, “My family will go, ‘Wait, you didn’t tell us?!’”
Linn happened to be in the studio for the interview. When the cameras panned over to him, he initially looked confused by the mistake. However, he started grinning once Reba started discussing their dynamic.
Working With Her Fiancé
Reba is enjoying her time on “Happy’s Place” and getting the opportunity to work alongside her fiancé. She said it’s been a “blast.”
“The Voice” coach went on to say that Linn is a “workaholic” and he loves to rehearse. She added, “Me, not so much on the rehearsal part, so he really makes sure that I know my lines, that I’m ready to go when we have a tape day. We have a blast. We’re so grateful and thankful that we get to go to work together, and then go home together.”
‘The Voice’ Playoffs
While Reba and Rex have been busy filming season 2 of the NBC sitcom, the country music star has also been busy filming season 28 of “The Voice.”
The current season heads into the Playoffs, with Team Reba and Team Bublé performing on Night 1, which takes place on Monday, December 1.
For Night 1, all four members of each team will perform. Then it will be decision time, as Reba and Michael can choose only one artist to represent their team in the Live Finale, which starts on December 15.
The remaining three artists from each team will then go into a pool, with viewers getting a chance to vote one of them into the Live Finale. The pressure is on for Reba, as she looks to get her second win as a coach on “The Voice.”
“The Voice” airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, with episodes available to stream the next day on Peacock.
