Kelly Clarkson Shares Why Her Favorite Duet Made Her the Most Nervous

“American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson is no stranger to harmonizing with some of the industry’s biggest stars. Over the years, she’s performed duets with Ariana Grande, John Legend, Jelly Roll, Teddy Swims, and P!nk, proving that her powerhouse vocals can blend effortlessly with just about any artist and genre.

On Oct. 28, Clarkson welcomed singer and songwriter Aloe Blacc to “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” The two previously recorded a duet together, but unlike many of Clarkson’s other collaborations, this one stood out. Clarkson admitted to being nervous about how their vocals would blend.

Kelly Clarkson Admits She Was Uncertain About Her Duet With Aloe Blacc

Kelly Clarkson welcomed singer Aloe Blacc to “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” where he performed “One Good Thing” from his latest album “Stand Together.”

After his performance, Clarkson admitted that out of all of her duets, working with Blacc on the 2017 song “Love Goes On” was one of her favorites of all time.

“Man, I was so excited you were coming on,” Clarkson told Blacc. “One of my favorite duets I’ve ever done in my whole career is the song you asked me to be on, ‘Love Goes On’ for ‘The Shack.’ It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever been able to be a part of. Thank you. We sound so good together!”

However, Clarkson would also reveal that the experience was a bit nerve-racking, since the two didn’t actually record the song together. Clarkson wondered if the two singers’ voices would blend for the track.

“We didn’t get to record it together and you don’t know, like, ‘Man are we going to sound good together?’ We sound so good together is all I’m saying.” She shared.

Blacc wrote “Love Goes On” for the faith-based film “The Shack,” which was inspired by William P. Young’s best-selling novel of the same name.

Clarkson Duets With Sarah McLachlan, Her Musical Inspiration

Kelly Clarkson invited Canadian singer and songwriter Sarah McLachlan to her talk show in early October, where she got to live out her dream of performing alongside one of her “main influences” and the artist who inspired her musical journey.

One of the most intriguing parts of their interview was McLachlan sharing how her hit song “Angel” came to be after reading about the passing of Smashing Pumpkins keyboard player, Jonathan Melvoin.

“Isn’t it interesting what inspires you to write something that the masses adore?” Clarkson shared.

Additionally, the tune would be heard on television for years after it became the main song on ASPCA commercials.

“Here’s the problem, though, is I can’t watch those freakin’ commercials,” Clarkson joked. “It’s the perfect song, whoever is the genius behind the move, to put that song with those ASPCA commercials.. I will give you all my money.”

Clarkson performed several duets with McLachlan on her show, including “Angel” and “River,” with the latter originally sung by Joni Mitchell, who influenced both artists.
