Tyler Hynes Agreed to Make ‘Christmas Above the Clouds’ for the Sweetest Reason (EXCLUSIVE)

For devoted Hallmark fans, one of the season’s most highly anticipated movies is “Christmas Above the Clouds,” which will reunite fan-favorites Tyler Hynes and Erin Krakow four years after their 2021 hit, “It Was Always You.”

Premiering on November 8, 2025, the modern-day spin on “A Christmas Carol” stars Krakow as workaholic CEO Ella Neezer (get it?!), as she hops a plane for Australia, hoping to avoid Christmas altogether. But while cruising through the sky, she’s haunted by her past, present, and future — and has an unexpected reunion with her ex, played by Hynes.

While fans can’t wait to see Krakow and Hynes’ onscreen chemistry again, Hynes told EntertainmentNow that he jumped on board simply because he couldn’t wait to see Krakow in this role.

Tyler Hynes Says He ‘Selfishly’ Agreed to ‘Christmas Above the Clouds’ Role

Ahead of the movie’s Hallmark Channel premiere, Hynes told EntertainmentNow, “I wanted to do this movie because I wanted to see Erin play this part. I wanted to see her, in person, do her thing. I wanted to be a witness to it.”

“It’s really her journey,” he continued. “It’s about her character. My character is in service to her. And there came a point where I was sort of picking which movie I was going to do, and I just selfishly went, ‘I just want to see Erin do this movie in person!'”

Hynes added, “I always try to, with every movie that I do, make sure that the reason why I’m doing it is very clear to me, and that it’s the right motivation. And with this, I selfishly just wanted to watch Erin do her thing in person.”

Did the duo instantly slip into their magical onscreen chemistry? Not quite. When they first reunited on set, Hynes said it took a day or so before he and Krakow truly connected because they were filming scenes in which Ella was watching herself in a different time.

“So I’m acting with somebody who’s her double,” Hynes told EntertainmentNow, “and (Erin’s) behind me, watching us. For the first day, I think, we were doing that. And then finally, she was in front of me and we were doing a scene together where we dance, and I think I kissed her. And it was like, ‘Oh, there you are. I remember this.'”

Tyler Hynes Reveals Why Filming ‘Christmas Above the Clouds’ Felt ‘Totally Different’ Than ‘It Was Always You’

Despite finding their groove pretty quickly, Hynes told EntertainmentNow that filming a second movie with Krakow felt “totally different” than the first time. That’s because logistically, everything was different, from the set and crew to changes and influences in his and Krakow’s lives.

“The crew members and collaborators that (viewers) never see or meet are so much a part of the fabric of the experience and our performances,” Hynes said.

He also noted, “How I find lines or character traits or rhythms is all usually born out of a combination of my own thoughts, what I’m watching or consuming at the time, and the audience and how they’ve impacted me at that moment. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to set and seen something, and it made me think of something else, and then it finds its way into a scene.”

“So, all of that is different with each movie and it feels new every time,” Hynes told EntertainmentNow. “That’s also why it feels refreshing. It makes it challenging every time. There’s always something you never expect. So with Erin, it was another unique experience.”

What Didn’t Change for Tyler Hynes Was Erin Krakow’s Calming Presence On Set

While the experience of filming a new movie together may have felt different, Hynes did say that the one constant was Krakow’s calming presence on set.

“She has a real ability to live in a moment,” he told EntertainmentNow. “To settle and take a beat and to be herself, and to see me. In real time, we can be very calm and together in a moment. And that’s a unique quality that she has. She’s very, very, very good at that, and I deeply appreciate (what that did) for our characters.”

Fans, however, have been decidedly less calm about the duo’s reunion, loving every little peek of Hynes and Krakow, onscreen and off. In June, the duo dropped multiple hints on social media as they filmed “Christmas Above the Clouds” in Vancouver, and they officially announced the movie in late July. When Hynes later surprised Krakow in August on the set of her hit Hallmark series “When Calls The Heart,” excitement about their reunion hit a fever pitch.

“Christmas Above the Clouds” premieres on November 8 at 8 p.m. Eastern time and will be available to stream via Hallmark+ the next day.

  5. Erin and Tyler are my two favorite actors on the Hallmark Channel. They both are so natural in the roles they play. “It Was Always You” is one of my husband and my favorites. I am looking forward to seeing this movie tomorrow evening. (Fortunately both of our state’s top football teams have “bys'” tomorrow.)

  6. I couldn’t wait to see “Christmas Above the Clouds”. I loved, loved it. Tyler and Erin are a perfect match.
I have taped it and will be watching it many more times. I taped “It Was Always You” and can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve seen that one. Why they waited 4 years to film another movie together is beyond me. They complement each other so well. They are so natural. Please don’t wait another 4 years to make a movie together. At least I have these two to watch whenever the mood strikes.
