‘The View’ Host Reveals Crushing 6-Words Her Daughter Said to Her in Honest Comments

Season 29 of ABC’s “The View” is currently airing, and the show remains as engaging as ever with its political commentary and real-life discussions. However, co-host Sunny Hostin recently opened up outside of the show about the honest comments her daughter recently shared about her as a parent.

According to PEOPLE, Hostin was on a panel titled “Reinvention & Renewal: Living Fully in Midlife.” While on it, she opened up about her life as a mother. Hostin said, “Being totally candid, my daughter told me a couple months ago, ‘You weren’t always the best mother.”

She reflected on hearing this, saying, “That’s very painful. And I asked, ‘Why?’ And she said, ‘Because you weren’t always there.'” Hostin continued, “And it was interesting because I never missed a dance performance. I never missed a basketball game. I never missed a track meet, and I never missed a piano performance.”

She then said, “But for her, that wasn’t showing up. Showing up was being there at home instead of perhaps being at a speaking engagement, perhaps traveling for a book tour.” From there, she discussed not being there when he daughter’s first boyfriend broke up with her.

The “View” host continued, “And to her, that meant I wasn’t a great mom all the time, and I have to receive that and listen to that.” She added, “My son thinks I’m amazing.”

Hostin Shares Two Kids With Her Husband

As Hostin mentioned, she has two children, a son and a daughter. She shares them with Manny Emmanuel, whom she married in 1998. Per PEOPLE, she opened up on “The View” about how she almost broke up with him but didn’t after getting advice from her best friend.

Hostin said, “I was going to cancel Manny because I thought he was too short.” She continued, “Regina told me he could stand on his medical degree, and he’d be tall enough. She gives good advice.” Notably, they were discussing remaining friends with people who criticize their marriages.

Hostin went on, “I think when someone loves you and your friend loves you and you can be that honest, I receive that. I do listen to my friends that I’m close to.”

“The View” Is Still Going Strong

“The View” premiered in 1997 and looked quite a bit different from what it does today, as it had a very simple set. Now, after the show has been on the air for almost 30 years, it remains strong. According to Memorable TV, the show hit a four-month high in March 2025. Notably, it ranked as the number one show in daytime with 2.621 viewers.

“The View” was also up six percent from the same period for the previous season.
