“Counting On” alum Jessa Duggar is celebrating a positive health update about her newborn son — and she says one big change to her own diet made all the difference.
Jessa Duggar Opened Up About Son Edward’s Health
Duggar, 33, welcomed baby No. 6 with husband Ben Seewald in August. The little one, whom the parents have affectionately dubbed “Your Royal Fatness,” had been suffering from what Duggar believed was a bad case of cradle cap.
However, the TLC alum explained during a video shared via YouTube on Monday, November 10, that the infant’s rash was “itchy.”
“It looks like cradle cap, but it’s not cradle cap because it’s itchy. Cradle cap is not supposed to be itchy,” she said, showing the newborn attempting to scratch his scalp. “So, I made the decision about a week ago to go off of dairy. I have not had dairy in about a week.”
She continued, “I’m wondering if he has something that one of my other kiddos had. Henry had the same rash on his head, [and] eczema, you know, under his arms and in all of his creases.”
Duggar recalled going “dairy-free” when Henry was about four months old, saying, “All of his stuff cleared up.”
“I’m hoping it’s just the same issue for Edward. So I’m giving it a try. I’m one week in,” she added. “His skin is looking a lot clearer already. He still has some rash on his torso, but his head is looking so much better.”
While the “19 Kids and Counting” alum acknowledged that the process seems to be working, she also explained that “it is not fun to be off of dairy.”
Jessa Duggar Talks Pressure to ‘Bounce Back’ Post Baby
Duggar, who celebrated her birthday last week with some dairy-free ice cream, recently opened up about the pressure to “bounce back” after giving birth.
“As far as the weight loss goes, I usually gain at least 40 pounds in every pregnancy. This pregnancy with Edward, I gained more like 45 probably,” the mother of six shared in a September 15 YouTube video. “I want to say probably half of that weight’s gone just from giving birth and a big baby and the placenta and all the water weight and everything from summer. But I’m like, ‘Boy, I still have a long ways to go.’”
Duggar explained that while she’s hoping the “numbers go down” on the scale, she’s trying to give herself grace through the process.
“But people will say, ‘Give your body time. Nine months in, nine months out with a baby.’ Took you nine months to put on the weight, expect about nine months to get back to a place where you’re feeling good,” she added. “I’m trying not to stress about it too much.”
