Update: ‘90 Day Fiancé’ Star’s Brave Cancer Battle Detailed as Family & Fans Mourn

Chuck Potthast, father of reality-TV personality Elizabeth “Libby” Castravet and a recurring figure on the franchise of “90 Day Fiancé,” passed away at the age of 64 after a fight with and complications from glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, according to various outlets.

There is no treatment for glioblastoma, per the Mayo Clinic.

His daughter publicly confirmed the news of his passing in a social-media post on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025, asking for privacy amid profound grief.

Years of Illness and Public Appearances

Potthast had been open about his health struggles for several years.

In 2022, he revealed his cancer battle and went public with his treatment and complications.

In September of this year, he underwent a lengthy hernia surgery—initially intended to address a smaller issue but complicated by his previous cancer treatment.

“My surgery was supposed to be about three to four hours long to fix hernias from my previous cancer operations that had developed,” he said at the time. “Once they got in there, they seen that my stomach wall had completely collapsed, so they had to fix that, which they did.”

Despite his illness, he continued posting snapshots of family life and moments of gratitude with his last post from October.

A Legacy in the ‘90 Day’ Franchise

Although best known as the father of Elizabeth Castravet, who appeared on seasons of “90 Day Fiancé” and its spin-offs, Potthast carved his own public presence.

He was regarded by many fans as one of the “good ones” in what was often a dramatic cast.

His role in the show’s narrative was that of a protective, at times blunt father whose commentary and relationship with his daughter and son-in-law were often captured on screen.

Family Statement and Fan Response

Elizabeth Castravet’s Instagram message read in part: “Two weeks ago, tragedy struck our family and it has left us completely shattered. My sweet, loving, and caring dad went to heaven. We’re trying to figure out how to navigate our lives and move forward without him.”

She urged respect for the family’s privacy during the difficult time. Her sister Becky also posted a tribute, writing that their father “went home to be with The Lord.”

Fans of the franchise responded with both surprise and sadness, many remembering Potthast for his loyalty to his daughter and sense of humor, even as the family’s internal arguments played out publicly.

Potthast’s death leaves a void in multiple spheres: within his family, the “90 Day Fiancé” community and among viewers who saw him as a voice of reason in the show’s chaotic family dynamics. Longtime fans credited him with bringing a grounded presence to a reality-TV format often defined by conflict.
