Taylor Swift concluded the promotional tour for her recording-breaking album “The Life of a Showgirl” on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ on October 8 (technically airing in the early morning of October 9, at 12:35 a.m. ET). As promised on the show’s official Instagram, the night really was a full-blown”TAY/kover.”
Swift’s Career Reaches New Heights During Promotional Tour
Swift began her week-long multinational press tour after the release of her 12th studio album on October 3 by appearing on “The Graham Norton Show” in London that same day. Then, the international pop star joined “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in New York on October 6. In between her talk show appearances, Swift was also doing interviews on several radio shows, such as BBC Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James, Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, and Z100 New York.

After all, “The Life Of A Showgirl” has officially claimed the biggest first-week numbers ever recorded for an album. In its first five days, the album surpassed 3.5 million equivalent album units, Billboard reported on October 8. This breaks the record previously held by Adele‘s “25,” which bowed with 3.482 million units in the December 2015 chart. With a couple of days still remaining in the chart week, Swift’s tally continues to rise even further.
In a press release from AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc., Swift’s “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” dominated the box office, bringing in over $50 million globally and $34 million domestically during its one-weekend-only run. This means that Swift had achieved a number one album and a number one movie all in the same weekend. According to Deadline, this is an unprecedented feat that not even Prince accomplished with the release of “Purple Rain.”
Valerie Terranova/Getty ImagesWhen Swift revealed on the Kelce brothers’ “New Heights” podcast that she was working on this album during her seminal “Eras Tour,” one has to wonder if Swift ever has time to sleep. When Meyers asked this same question, Swift stated, “I sleep a lot, and I sleep often, but I don’t do anything other than this when I’m not sleeping.”
She went on to explain that she doesn’t know how to do anything else because this is the only thing she knows how to do. “I’m not well rounded. This is my one thing.”
With all that Swift has achieved both on and off the stage, Meyers had to disagree with her there.

Meyers also asked Swift to address the viral clip of Travis Kelce dancing to “Shake it Off” alongside other A-list celebrities like Tom Cruise in one of the VIP tents at Wembley Stadium during “The Eras Tour.”
“The most fun thing about having Travis out on the tour is just, like, he would go to the tents and, like, give me the tea afterward,” Swift told Meyers.
So, of course, Swift had to let her fiancé know that his favorite director, Greta Gerwig, would be in the tent. “He loves her range,” said Swift. The only thing the Kansas City Chiefs player wanted to do was tell Gerwig how funny he thought her 2023 film “Barbie” was. Swift encouraged him to do so, explaining to him that “[Gerwig] is the sweetest, giggliest person to tell that you like their work. You’re gonna love her.”
During their usual debrief after the show, Swift asked Travis how it went, to which Kelce responded in disappointment that he thought he had annoyed Gerwig with a joke he told. The joke in question was Kelce quoting the song “I’m Just Ken” from “Barbie” to the director. “I’m just Ken too,” Kelce said, before pointing to Swift up on stage. In response to this, Kelce recounted that Gerwig had just smiled politely but didn’t say anything. Swift thought this was very out of character.
Kelce had explained to her that Gerwig was dancing with Hugh Grant all night. Travis had said to her, “they kind of seem like they’re, like, soulmates.” This confused Swift, as she later saw the same clip we all did, and without a doubt, Kelce was dancing beside Gerwig all night as if they were best friends.
Swift and Kelce soon realized that he had gotten Gerwig mixed up with Grant’s wife, Anna Eberstein, who probably just didn’t have the heart to tell him that she didn’t direct “Barbie.”
“The good news is he can recognize true love!” concluded Meyers.
