Where Katy Perry & Taylor Swift’s Friendship Stands Now

Pop Icon and former “American Idol” judge Katy Perry is once again showing love to another pop legend, Taylor Swift, a full-circle moment years in the making. Nearly a decade after their rumored feud inspired chart-topping hits and endless headlines, the “Firework” singer supported Swift’s latest album, “Life of a Showgirl,” by sharing the song “Eldest Daughter” on her Instagram Stories.

The sweet gesture came just months after Perry attended Swift’s record-breaking “Eras Tour” in March 2024, where the two pop icons reunited backstage.

This is a far cry from their tense history that once defined pop culture’s biggest rivalry.

Perry and Swift’s relationship wasn’t always this warm. Their well-documented feud began in the mid-2010s and is believed to have inspired Swift’s “Bad Blood” and Perry’s “Swish Swish.”

In a 2020 interview on The Howard Stern Show, Perry opened up about how they eventually reconciled. “Gossip in life can take the elevator but the truth takes the stairs. It just takes time,” she said. Perry shared that they wanted to “set an example” for younger fans by publicly making peace, adding, “What I’m so grateful for is we did get to make up publicly and got to be an example of redemption for young girls.”

The Moment That Healed It All

Their reconciliation first became public in Swift’s 2019 “You Need to Calm Down” music video, where Perry appeared in a burger costume and Swift dressed as French Fries.

Before that, Perry had extended an olive branch to Swift’s “Reputation” tour, sending her an actual branch with a handwritten note.

“Then we started seeing each other out and about, and I would just walk up to her and say, ‘Hey, how are you?’” Perry recalled on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “We have so much in common. There are probably only ten people in the world who share the same experiences. We realized we could support each other through it.”

Swift’s Record-Breaking Album

Swift’s “Life of a Showgirl” became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day this year, reaching the milestone in under 11 hours. The 12th studio album marks another career high for the 35-year-old star.

Perry’s public nod to Swift’s new release highlights how far their friendship has come, evolving from rivalry to genuine respect.

In an interview with BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills on Monday, October 6, Swift was asked whether she’d ever consider following her former rival Katy Perry’s lead by taking a trip to space. When Mills posed the same question to Mariah Carey earlier this year, she famously replied, “I’ve done enough.” Swift’s reaction, however, was a bit more down-to-earth.

Both women now celebrate each other’s success, showing that in pop music, growth and grace never go out of style.
