Mark Hamill has revealed his top two characters from the "Star Wars" franchise while discussing how fun villains are to portray.

Jedi Master Luke Skywalker himself, or at least the actor who plays him on screen, has revealed his favorite characters from the “Star Wars” franchise. Mark Hamill was speaking on “Live with Kelly and Mark” to promote the upcoming “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants,” where he voices The Flying Dutchman and explained the two characters from the sci-fi series that he finds most interesting — and neither of them are the iconic Jedi that he played.

Mark Hamill Reveals Top 2 ‘Star Wars’ Characters

While appearing on the morning talk show with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, Hamill discussed his recent film work and how it has been diverse, as it has included “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants” alongside two Stephen King adaptations. It was here that he got into a discussion about the different types of characters he has played and how he loves to portray villains.

“I’ve had a year where I did two Stephen King adaptations,” Hamill told the hosts. “I did ‘The Life of Chuck,’ which is very serious but life affirming — By the way, my wife says that’s the favourite movie I’ve ever done in her opinion. But then I did ‘The Long Walk,’ both by Stephen King, which shows what a versatile writer he is.”

It was at this point that host Mark Consuelos noted that it’s “fun to play a bad guy, right?” to which Hamill quickly agreed and then responded by talking about the first time he got the chance to read the script for the first “Star Wars” film and what he thinks are the two top characters from the film.

Hamill says, “I remember when I first read ‘Star Wars’ I said that after Han Solo, Darth Vader’s the best part.”

“I love the villains because, you know, actors don’t always have to have a positive reaction. We just love reactions,” Hamill explains. He then compared this to his role in the SpongeBob movie saying, “If I do my job correctly, every child will hate my guts.”

Mark Hamill Got His Start on Sopa Operas

In the same interview, Hamill went on to reveal that he started out his acting career by appearing in daytime soap operas. Noting the similarities between he and Consuelos in their early careers, he spoke about his time starring as Kent Murray on “General Hospital” back in the ’70s.

He went on to say that while he was never a fan of soap operas himself, it provided a great education in the world of entertainment and helped prepare him for his other roles he would have later in his career.

Considering his love for villains, it might not be all that surprising to learn that Hamill has portrayed a number of bad guys in films and television series. Of course, his most memorable role other than Luke Skywalker is likely his voice acting for The Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series” along with many spin-offs and other “Batman” adaptations.

However, he has also lent his voice to Skeletor in “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” Fire Lord Ozai in “Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Hobgoblin in “Spider-Man: The Animated Series” in addition to live-action roles such as The Trickster in various incarnations of “The Flash.”

Mark Hamill is famous for playing Luke Skywalker, but one of his earliest roles was actually on a beloved soap opera.

Over the years, soap operas have served as a jumping-off point for countless Hollywood careers — including that of Star Wars icon Mark Hamill. On his December 8th, 2025, appearance on “Live With Kelly & Mark,” the actor reminded fans of his sudser roots. Although it may be hard to imagine him as anyone other than Luke Skywalker, the actor starred as Kent Murray on “General Hospital back in the ’70s.

“I have a lot in common with you,” Hamill said to Mark Consuelos, who rose to fame on “All My Children.” Though his time in the soap opera world was short-lived, Hamill has repeatedly noted that playing Kent Murray was a memorable part of his early acting career.

Hamill Saw ‘General Hospital’ as a Learning Experience

Of course, his “Live With Kelly & Mark” appearance is just one of many times Hamill has discussed his time on “General Hospital.” In 2023, he described his experiences on the show in a YouTube video, highlighting a few lessons the series helped him learn as a young actor. “It was a great education to learn how to find your light, how to hit your marks,” he said.

Although he also admitted at the time that he wasn’t a big sudser fan himself, the cast and crew on “General Hospital” were pleasant to work with. As he explained, he spent nine months in his recurring role as Jesse Brewer’s nephew. “I still have great memories of working there,” he said. Hamill finished his soap opera tenure in 1973, when he was still in his early twenties. Little did he know that his career-making role in Star Wars was just a few short years away.

Being Luke Skywalker Truly Changed His Life

Kent Murray may have helped Hamill learn the acting ropes, but there’s no question that Luke Skywalker launched the actor’s career. The role catapulted him from an actor who took on mostly small roles to an enduringly recognizable face in the film industry. Even nearly 50 years after he first stepped into Skywalker’s shoes, Hamill still has plenty of vivid memories about the role. In 2023, he sat down with CBS Sunday Morning to reminisce about that time in his life. He discussed being on a publicity tour in 1977 and recalled his shock at seeing droves of fans.

“We landed in Chicago,” Hamill said. “I looked out, and I saw there were crowds outside. I said, ‘Hey, you guys, there must be somebody famous on this plane.'” At the time, he and the other actors didn’t realize the crowd was for them — until they stepped off the plane and saw fans dressed in homemade Star Wars costumes. Though Hamill has since played many other memorable roles across film, television, and even Broadway, there’s no doubt that Luke Skywalker remains a huge part of his Hollywood legacy.

“Star Wars” actor Oscar Isaac has shared his talents on screen, but now, in a documentary titled “King Hamlet,” he has opened up about more personal details, including processing his mother’s death.

Oscar Isaac’s Mother’s Passing

Isaac’s mother, Eugenia, died in 2017, and the documentary created by his wife, Elvira Lind, let fans in on his complicated feelings surrounding her passing. At the time, he had been working on “Hamlet” at the Public Theater in New York City. Shortly before Eugenia passed, Isaac wrote down things she would say and recited them. “Everything goes back to the ocean. The ocean takes back everything. The only thing it doesn’t take is love. Love never goes out,” he said of her words, People reports.

Eugenia’s death had a tremendous impact on the family, but at the same time, Lind was pregnant with her and Isaac’s child, Eugene. He was also preparing for “Hamlet” and starred in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” His work on the play helped him to process his grief. “I literally was sobbing, and then the moment that I was able to think about the play a little bit, it got me out of that,” he said of his work on “Hamlet.” “And it’s like, literally, the play is the only salvation that I could find.”

Oscar Isaac Praises His Wife’s Film

The documentary was shown at DOC NYC on November 14 and November 15, and Isaac was there to answer questions. He also shared his thoughts on the documentary. “It is a miracle that it exists,” he said at the Q&A at DOC NYC, People reports. “Already in theater, we know, is sort of ephemeral and is meant to show up and go, and the fact that this document exists in that way is a miracle.”

He also praised his wife. “But really, the miracle is that Elvira came into my life, and that she does what she does, which is, she never runs away from the sharp edges of life. She doesn’t try to sand them down,” he said.

He continued, “She… dared to pick up the camera and to film, as weird and challenging as you can imagine that is with your loved ones, and then so many years later, to look at it and have the courage to like, ‘Oh, I’ve got something to say with this,’ and then now it’s presented. It’s, for me, it’s a very inspiring thing.”

In promotion of the film, Lind has shared her excitement on Instagram. When she posts photos of the film or the festivals it screens at, fans show their love and support in the comments. Seeing her and Isaac attend these screenings together also shows a glimpse into their beautiful partnership.

“Star Wars” stalwart Mark Hamill, who is best known for portraying the Jedi Luke Skywalker in the sci-fi franchise, has shared his thoughts on his long and happy marriage while accepting an award. During his speech, the Hollywood legend revealed that marrying his wife was “the best decision I ever made.”

Hamill made the admission about his wife while accepting the Gregory Peck Award for Cinematic Excellence during the 2025 San Diego Film Festival. Presented and reported by Variety, Hamill ended his speech by honouring and thanking his wife of almost 50 years, Marilou Hamill.

“In 1978, I married my former dental hygienist, Marilou Hamill — the best decision I ever made,” he said at the close of his speech. “She gave me three beautiful children. She’s been with me through thick and thin and the ups and downs in this crazy business. I can’t thank her enough. I love you.”

The pair married in 1978 and have three adult children together – Nathan, Griffin, and Chelsea. They met before the actor landed his role in “Star Wars,” while she was working in a local dental office.

During his speech, Hamill was also keen to thank those who had helped him in his career and played an important role in helping him. “I want to share this with the countless people who have helped me over the years because a career in this business is a composite endeavor,” he said.

He continued, “I think of all the writers, directors, other actors and crew. You can’t do it alone. There are so many people who helped me get to where I am today.”

“The Long Walk” cast member also shared how he never imagined having such an impact on the world of entertainment. He had originally believed he would pursue acting as a passion rather than as a way of making money.

“I didn’t have high aspirations when I decided to become an actor,” he explained. “My goal was to become a working stiff, do what I loved, be able to make a living at it to pay the bills and hopefully support a family.”

The Actor Isn’t Chasing Big Roles Anymore

Hamill has previously spoken about his lack of desire to continue working on large blockbuster films. Explaining his reasoning for not pursuing roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other similar franchises in recent years, the actor revealed that he prefers work as a voice actor and smaller roles, as it means he can go home to his family.

“I said to my agent, ‘I’ll keep doing voiceover, but I just don’t relish the idea of going off on location and leaving my family,’’ he said. “Because [with] voiceover, they’re four-hour sessions. You might have two on one day, but then you go home to your wife and your dogs, and you sleep in your own bed.”

Hollywood is mourning the loss of iconic movie poster artist Drew Struzan.

Struzan, known for his work in “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” passed away at 78, Deadline reported.

The legendary artist was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease several years ago and quietly stepped away from the public eye.

Struzan’s wife confirmed the sad news on Tuesday in an emotional Instagram post.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that Drew Struzan has moved on from this world as of yesterday, October 13th. I feel it is important that you all know how many times he expressed to me the joy he felt knowing how much you appreciated his art.”

Aside from “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” Struzan was the creative mind behind movie posters for popular films, including “Risky Business,” “Back to the Future,” “The Goonies,” “The Thing,” and “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”

Drew Struzan Was a ‘Force of Nature’

The Struzan family remembered the artist’s legacy with another touching tribute on Instagram. In a lengthy post, they described him as a “force of nature” and “like a whirlwind” that “could not be stopped nor tamed nor manipulated.”

His family reflected on how Alzheimer’s affected Struzan and the courage he showed in his fight against it.

“The disease, this particular disease, took the wind out of him,” the family wrote in part. “He could no longer speak his language out loud. We respected the tenacity, his ability to hold on to the fire within that continued to rage. Daily he tended the flame reviewing the paintings of those he long admired. Van Gogh. Gauguin. Cézanne. The Impressionists who fought diligently against the status quo.”

The statement continued:

“It was our honor to nurture that glow. Please take a moment to reflect on what he brought to you. Life should be full of love and beauty. -The Struzan Family”

Tributes Pour In

Meanwhile, fans and fellow artists shared their heartfelt tributes to Struzan, honoring his legacy.

One fan wrote, “Thank you for rendering my childhood and capturing my 20’s, you giant genius!”

Another commented, “The BEST Movie Poster Artist EVER. He single-handedly shaped so many of our fantasy worlds. Thank you ALWAYS King Drew!”

Someone added, “Drew will live on through his work. One of a kind – he inspired several generations of artists.”

Another chimed in, “The Goat of movie posters! One and Only. Thank you, Drew. Your masterpieces lives forever.”

Along with being the leading man of Netflix’s “Last of Us” and Star Wars’ “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” superstar Pedro Pascal also happens to be a loving brother. That’s why he showed up to support his sister, Lux Pascal, at the Chanel womenswear spring/summer 2026 show during Paris Fashion Week. Lux, who is both an actress and model, was walking the runway for the prestigious brand.

Pedro & Lux Both Looked Fabulous

For the show, Lux stepped out in a lengthy top with no sleeves that boasted a lovely cream color with a chevron print. She also slayed a matching skirt, large beaded necklace, a sizable black handbag and shoes that were black and maroon. Beyond that, she had her hair down and either wore no or barely-there makeup.

As for Pedro, he wore a navy blue sweater and black pants, with sunglasses and a shoulderbag to complete the look.

Lux Has Opened Up About Pedro Before

There’s no doubt that Pedro supports his sister, Lux. In fact, during a chat the duo had together for Elle in September, Lux opened up about a time she called her brother in need of advice.

“I just called you crying and you were just saying no, shaking your head. Because I was telling you about what was making me cry, but you were just like, ‘Just be yourself. People will see it eventually. Just be yourself.’ And I was just like, Yes, he’s right,” Lux recalled.

“And also how you survived New York before I did, without anything,” she continued. “People speak about the privilege of being your sister, but they don’t really know the privilege to have someone who has survived this world—not even the industry, it’s more about being alone in a terrifying city to be alone in. I’m speaking to someone who knows me, who loves me, who protects me, who wants the best for me. There’s that. But it’s also that I’m speaking to someone who has [expletive] experience.”

She added, “It’s like, well, things might be difficult, but I don’t want to leave. It’s like you said, ‘Be yourself. People will see it.'”

Mark Hamill is an important part of the “Star Wars” universe, and fans love him for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker. Dedicated fans of the franchise may feel they know all there is to know about Skywalker, but Hamill has shared a well-kept secret about a line that never made it onto the films.

Mark Hamill Reveals the Cut Line

“There was a line in the screen test — thank God it was cut, and I’ve never forgotten it,” Hamill told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview on September 11. He then reflected on the line and the scenario he was in when he was meant to be delivered.

“We’re in the Millennium Falcon, no Wookie. It’s just me and Han Solo. He says, when he gets toward the Death Star, ‘OK, that’s enough for me. We’re turning around. I’ve held up my side of the bargain,’” Hamill said. “Then I say: ‘But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilea or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed toward a large-scale assault.’”

The line was cut, and Hamill was happy about it. He told the publication that his thoughts at the time were “Who talks like this?”

Hamill went on to discuss why the sentence itself makes sense, but it lacks the spontaneity you would expect in the situation. He then spoke of George Lucas, the filmmaker who created the “Star Wars” franchise. Hamill said he is not an “actor’s director in the sense that he doesn’t want to hear about backstory or motivation or all that.”

Hamill continued, “He cast actors who are so close to what he wants that he’s not going to have to do a lot of that — Harrison is endlessly laid-back and cool the minute he walks in the room. The only decision I made — that turned out to be the right one — is I’m going to do this as sincerely as I can.”

Could Luke Skywalker Continue After Mark Hamill?

With popular franchises like “Star Wars,” it is not unusual for multiple characters to play the role of a character when they are older and younger. But The Hollywood Reporter posed an interesting question to Hamill. They asked about using artificial intelligence technology to keep the character alive, even after he is done playing him.

“What you’re asking about is so hard to contemplate. Are we going to have to have something in our wills that comment on that, saying, ‘I don’t want this done?’ I have enough trouble trying to deal with the jobs that I do have than to start speculating about the future,” he replied.

What we do know is that Hamill has been a part of the “Star Wars” franchise since its conception, starring in “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” in 1977. The actor is now 73, and to date, his last performance as Skywalker was in 2022. ScreenRant reports that Hamill has played the character in seven live-action projects.

Kendall Jenner and Mark Hamill are proving that fashion and film truly go hand in hand.

In this stylized sneak peek released for the upcoming “Vogue World” tribute, the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star and the legendary original “Star Wars” trilogy actor truly shine. Their theatrical collaboration sets the stage for one of the year’s most anticipated fashion events.

Kris Jenner shared the advertisement on her Instagram on Thursday, September 18, teasing this year’s one-night-only fashion show and street fair.

This year marks the event’s first time being hosted in Hollywood, scheduled for Sunday, October 26, at the iconic Paramount Pictures Studios Lot.

Fashion model Jenner serves several killer looks in this short video. One is a dramatic Rococo-inspired pastel ruffle gown, while her second ensemble is more reminiscent of a rakish pirate. Each look illustrates excellence in Hollywood costuming artistry.

While Jenner appears dressed to the nines in lavish costumes, Hamill dramatically narrates her “Backlot Baroness” character’s motivations as she tears through the Paramount Studios Lot as if on a mission.

This short teaser features the unique Hollywood pairing coming together to unite modern fashion and classic cinema through style and storytelling.

These Iconic Stars Both Make Headlines

For Hamill, the face of the unforgettable Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars,” this striking advert is a minor feat compared to his recent projects.

The 73-year-old actor recently starred in the film adaptation of Stephen King‘s ’70s dystopian thriller “The Long Walk” as the antagonistic “Major.” He also recently starred in the Christian animated film “The King of Kings” as “King Herod.”

Hamill’s presence in the “Vogue World” teaser truly adds a touch of Hollywood nostalgia, perfectly complementing Jenner’s contemporary star power.

Fashion mogul Jenner has recently made headlines with the drop of her Fall 2025 Alo Yoga campaign. She also appeared on the October 2025 cover of Vogue, alongside longtime friend Gigi Hadid.

“Vogue World” Impact

The first annual “Vogue World” celebration was hosted in 2022 in New York City. It has since been held in fashion meccas, London and Paris.

Known for merging expensive high fashion with performance art, the one-night festival has committed to giving back to local communities with its profits.

“Vogue World” has donated more than $3 million in the last 3 years, and, according to “Vogue”, this year will be no different. All ticket proceeds are to go to the Entertainment Community Fund, supporting costume professionals impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires.

Mark Hamill isn’t chasing after superhero roles at this point in his career — and he’s perfectly fine with that.

The 73-year-old “Star Wars” legend, best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker, recently spoke with GamesRadar+ while promoting his new film “The Long Walk.”

During the interview, Hamill explained that he’s focused on projects that challenge him in unexpected ways rather than blockbuster franchise roles.

“The older you get, the less you care,” Hamill said. “I said to my agent, ‘I’ll keep doing voiceover, but I just don’t relish the idea of going off on location and leaving my family.’ Because [with] voiceover, they’re four-hour sessions. You might have two on one day, but then you go home to your wife and your dogs, and you sleep in your own bed. All I was saying is I’m at a point where I don’t have the fire in my belly anymore.”

Hamill emphasized that he’s not pushing to be part of major superhero franchises. “I’m not on the phone to my agent saying, ‘I gotta be in a Marvel movie.’ I don’t care,” he said, making clear that he’s content with where his career is now.

Instead, Hamill has embraced opportunities that came his way organically. “They offered me ‘The Wild Robot,’ and I love animation. That’s in my wheelhouse. That, I got to sleep in my own bed,” he shared.”

From Voice Work to Film: Mark Hamill on Roles That Motivate Him

Hamill said his decision to star in “The Long Walk” stemmed from its departure from his usual characters. He plays The Major in the film, a role he described as the opposite of a heroic protagonist. “It’s such a beautiful country. And in a way, it works because you’re isolated. You’re away from home. You’re really much more committed to the material at hand because you’re not dealing with your books and your toys and your TV set and all this stuff you have at home,” he said.

According to Variety, the actor revealed earlier at Comic-Con that he had considered retiring in 2019 after wrapping up “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” “I thought this stage in my career, I’d be spending more time with a metal detector, wandering around the beach, playing with the dogs in the backyard,” Hamill said.

“I said to my agent, ‘You know what? I’m not motivated anymore. I think I’m gonna just sort of retire and just do voice over.’ And the only people that rejected were my agent and my wife, because, you know, it’s good to have me out of the house,” he added.

Even as he steps away from franchise expectations, Hamill continues to work on projects that resonate with him personally. His openness to voice work and unique scripts highlights a creative spirit that values storytelling over spectacle.

“The Long Walk,” distributed by Lionsgate, opens in theaters Sept. 12.
