Ethan Peck, who currently stars as Mr. Spock in “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and previously appeared in “Star Trek: Discovery,” has shared his thoughts on the future of his iconic character.
Ethan Peck Open to Returning as Spock in Rumored Spinoff
In an August 2025 interview with TV Insider, Peck said he would be open to reprising Spock if Paramount green-lights a rumored spinoff titled “Star Trek: Year One.” The series is said to potentially focus on James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) as he steps into his role as captain of the USS Enterprise following the end of “Strange New Worlds.”
“I think it would be really wonderful. I will stay playing this character for as long as I’m invited, for the most part, because I just think it’s such an amazing thing to be a part of. The messaging is so incredible, and this character has so much integrity. He’s such a noble person, so I love portraying him,” Peck told the outlet.
Peck also reflected on Spock’s evolving relationship with Kirk in “Strange New Worlds.” The show, a prequel to “Star Trek: The Original Series,” introduces the beginnings of their legendary friendship, which became central to the franchise’s storytelling between 1966 and 1969.
Speaking with Men’s Journal, Peck explained how his off-screen bond with Paul Wesley mirrors the one fans see between their characters.
“Paul and I get along famously. The phrase I like to use when talking about Kirk and Spock’s onscreen chemistry is: They fall in love at first sight; platonic love at first sight,” Peck said.
Spock’s Growth & What the Future Holds for ‘Star Trek’
In the same interview, Peck added that he hopes his version of Spock has given fans a new perspective on the character.
“I really hope that I’ve furthered him as this curious person who has these incredibly high standards for himself,” Peck told Men’s Journal. “And yes, I think in the Western world, men are taught to withhold their feelings and not be emotional. And I think that occurs to the detriment of the experience of life. We did see Spock grow a lot with these romantic relationships, and I think it’s a major mistake not to develop your emotions and live in your feelings.”
While fans are buzzing about the possible “Star Trek: Year One,” executive producer Akiva Goldsman cautioned that nothing has been confirmed. In a September 2025 interview with TV Insider, Goldsman acknowledged that “Strange New Worlds” is concluding after its fifth season and explained that any potential continuation will depend on the studio.
“Honestly, I think we have no idea, in fairness. I mean, I think that clearly we would be thrilled to do it, and ultimately, we are renting, we don’t own,” Goldsman told the outlet. “And so it’s the people who own the building, which is now, it’s different landlords, so we’ll see what they think, and if so, great.”
With “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” set to conclude after its fifth season, the future of Spock on television remains uncertain. But one thing is clear: Ethan Peck is ready to continue carrying the torch of one of the franchise’s most enduring characters if given the chance.
