Gerty Pet’s Best Friend ‘Shark Tank’ UPDATE: Emotional Support for Dogs

Pet owners everywhere know the stress of leaving their dogs home alone. Todd Schram, a hospitality tech entrepreneur, faced the same struggle with his own pup. He tried everything—diffusers, calming music, even ThunderShirts —but nothing worked. One day, out of frustration, he left a pile of his laundry on the dog’s bed. To his surprise, his dog curled up beside it, comforted by his scent. That simple moment inspired the creation of Gerty, a human-shaped inflatable doll designed to keep pets company.

Schram later brought his invention to Season 17 of “Shark Tank,” presenting Gerty as both an emotional support doll and a “pet’s best friend.” He told the Sharks he believed the product could change the lives of anxious dogs—and the people who love them.

How the Gerty Doll Works for Dogs

Gerty is made from soft-touch vinyl with multiple air chambers for stability. It has a friendly, cartoon-like face, broad torso, and U-shaped arms, giving dogs the perfect shape to curl against. Owners are encouraged to dress Gerty in their worn clothes so the doll carries their scent, making it feel even more familiar.

While it doesn’t move or make sounds, Gerty helps regulate separation anxiety simply by being a comforting presence. As Schram explained, “Dogs just need to feel like someone is there for them.”

Where Gerty Is Now

Founded in 2024, the company now sells Gerty directly on its website and through Amazon.

The doll is available in two versions: a standard face for $39.99 and a custom face option for $64.99, allowing buyers to upload any face they choose. Each doll comes with instructions and a repair patch.

Gerty has earned positive reviews, with owners praising how it helps their dogs relax when they are away from home. Portable, lightweight, and easy to clean, the doll has become a must-have for many pet parents.

Why Pet Owners Are Embracing Gerty

Positioned as the leading solution for dog separation anxiety, Gerty has earned glowing feedback from pet parents. Many call it “life-changing,” saying the inflatable companion brings calm to their dogs and peace of mind to their families.

For creator Todd Schram, what began as a personal fix for his own pup has blossomed into a business built on comfort, love, and connection.

As more owners seek ways to nurture their pets’ emotional well-being, Gerty is becoming more than a product. It’s a trusted companion, offering stability and reassurance when families are away from home.

“Shark Tank” airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, with episodes available to stream the following day on Hulu.
