"Shark Tank's" Kevin O'Leary, aka Mr. Wonderful, talks business flops, how he bounced back, and the $4.2 billion sale that made him a fortune.

Kevin O'Leary

Kevin O’Leary, otherwise known as Mr. Wonderful in the “Shark Tank” tank is the show’s resident porcupine: prickly on the outside, but soft on the inside. Or if not soft, at least human. Though viewers tune in for his caustic wit, it’s actually his honesty that keeps us coming back for more. While the other sharks – Lori Greiner, Barbara Corcoran, Daymond John, Robert Herjavec, and Daniel Lubetzky – operate with a softness and sensitivity toward the nervous contestants hawking their investment opportunities, Mr. Wonderful offers no such politeness.

But isn’t that what we love about him?

And it’s actually when he turns that harsh, honest lens on himself when fans find him most endearing.

If He Had a Time Machine

Kevin O’Leary speaks before a Senate Committee

In an October 27 post on X, O’Leary was asked in a video interview what he would advise his 25-year-old self to do differently when it comes to his professional past, and his answer may be surprising. “I wouldn’t change anything. I wouldn’t give him advice to do anything other than what he did, because it was the failures that led to the successes. I had some catastrophic failures, but I recovered from them. You only need one win, and you set yourself free.”

He sure did.

Today, O’Leary is worth an estimated jaw-dropping $400 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. His fortune is largely due to the sale of his company, Softkey Software Products, for a staggering $4.2 billion to Mattel back in his mid-30s. With that kind of windfall, O’Leary could and did retire, but found no fulfillment ping-ponging around every beach imaginable. “I was bored out of my mind,” he said on CNBC in 2019.

He realized he needed a purpose. And so, he got back to work. This time, as an investor.

What Drives Him

Kevin O'LearyGetty
“Mr. Wonderful” Kevin O’Leary arrives at the 2025 Kennedy Center Gala.

What motivates him today is actually rooted in his desire to live longer. Staying busy with work is what keeps his brain sharp – plus, being a shark, he really does love the thrill of the hunt. And so, in addition to wheeling and dealing, he’s focused on diet and exercise to stay in tip-top shape until the bitter end.

On the business front, he now only focuses on businesses that resonate with him. And many of them are thanks to “Shark Tank.” From the show, he’s invested in a meal kit delivery service called Plated, a dessert brand named Wicked Good Cupcakes, and a photobook app that goes by Groovebook, among others.

Of course, not all of his investments have been winners, but he takes it in stride. Because if anyone can turn epic flops into headline-making wins with style and swagger, it’s Mr. Wonderful.

Entrepreneur and investor Alexis Ohanian has built a business empire worth an estimated $150 million as of 2025. Best known as the co-founder of Reddit, Ohanian’s fortune stems from his groundbreaking startups, venture capital firm, and growing portfolio in sports and technology.

Ohanian will appear as a guest panelist on “Shark Tank” on October 22, marking another milestone in his already dynamic career. His resume includes launching Reddit in 2005 with Steve Huffman and Aaron Swartz, selling it to Condé Nast just a year later for a reported $10–20 million (according to CNBC).

Today, Reddit’s market cap exceeds $40 billion, solidifying his early contribution to the digital world.

From Reddit to Breadpig & Initialized Capital

After Reddit’s success, Ohanian continued to explore ventures that combined innovation with purpose. In 2007, he launched Breadpig, a publishing startup that donates its proceeds to charity. Three years later, he co-founded Initialized Capital, a venture capital firm that became a key player in funding early-stage startups.

Under Ohanian’s leadership, Initialized Capital helped launch several billion-dollar companies, including Instacart, Coinbase, and Opendoor. His knack for spotting potential in tech-driven ideas established him as one of Silicon Valley’s most respected investors.

Expanding into Sports & Philanthropy

Never one to stay in one lane, Ohanian diversified his portfolio into sports and philanthropy. In 2024, he helped launch Athlos, a women ‘s-only track and field competition focused on visibility and equality in sports.

As per ESPN, in the same year, he joined the board of directors for Chelsea Women’s Football Club after acquiring a 10% stake in the team.

His venture firm, Seven Seven Six, continues to back bold, socially conscious startups, while the 776 Foundation supports global initiatives addressing climate change and education. “I’m always drawn to ideas that rethink how we live, work, and play,” Ohanian said in a past interview.

Ohanian’s entrepreneurial journey began with a single bold decision. As a college student at the University of Virginia, he walked out of the mid-test of the LSAT and headed to a Waffle House, deciding on the spot to become an entrepreneur.

“So I’d walked out of the LSAT,” he recalled on Wired’s Uncanny Valley podcast. “I went to a Waffle House and decided I was just gonna invent a career and be an entrepreneur.”

That impulsive choice led him and his roommate, Steve Huffman, to pitch an idea at a Harvard lecture by investor Paul Graham. Their original concept was rejected, but Graham saw potential in the duo. “We still don’t like your idea, but we like you guys,” Graham told them. “If you’re willing to change your idea, we’ll fund you.”

That moment sparked Reddit, a platform that now attracts more than 110 million daily users. As Ohanian put it, “It all started with a Waffle House, and the rest is history.”

Barbara Corcoran Opens Up About Husband’s Alzheimer’s Battle

Barbara Corcoran is leaning on the lessons her late mother taught her as she faces one of life’s most complicated challenges. The “Shark Tank” star, 75, revealed that her husband of 37 years, retired Navy captain and former FBI agent Bill Higgins, is living in a memory care facility after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

“My husband has Alzheimer’s, and he’s living in the memory ward of an extended care home,” Corcoran told Parade. “It’s an extremely difficult journey. But because I had my mother go through this earlier, I feel better equipped to give him everything he needs.”

Corcoran’s mother, Florence, passed away in 2012 at age 87 after her own battle with Alzheimer’s. That experience, the entrepreneur says, taught her compassion, patience, and how to truly connect with someone she loves, lessons that now guide her every day.

Learning to ‘Get in Their World’

Reflecting on both experiences, Corcoran said the key to communication is to meet loved ones where they are. “Get in their world. The minute you see them, get into their world,” she explained. “My husband doesn’t know who I am; he’s still back in Annapolis playing football, so I bring football photos and put them on his wall.”

Rather than trying to bring her husband back to reality, she said she finds peace by embracing his memories. “I ask him to tell me about his plays. He has a great memory for what he did on the football field. Whatever he’s talking about, I get right in his world.”

Lessons Her Mother Left Behind

Corcoran credits her mother with teaching her lessons she now applies to business, family, and caregiving. “If there’s one gift my mother had, it was identifying the gift in each and every one of her children,” said Corcoran, who grew up one of ten siblings in a two-bedroom flat.

She modeled her real estate business after her mother’s nurturing philosophy. “The first ingredient was taking on the attitude my mother had about us as children,” she shared. “It was the only lesson I really had to learn from her — see people for their gifts and lift them up.”

Continuing to Inspire Others

Parade reported that Corcoran joined fellow Shark Tank stars Mark Cuban, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O’Leary, Daniel Lubetzky, and Daymond John at the Clover x Shark Tank Summit in Las Vegas. Speaking to hundreds of entrepreneurs, Corcoran reflected on resilience, leadership, and the power of community, lessons she says come directly from her mother’s influence.

“The way she saw people, the way she believed in all of us — that’s how I run my business and my life,” Corcoran said. “Even through the hardest times, I hear her voice reminding me to look for the good.”

Kym Johnson-Herjavec is stepping back into the ballroom, this time at the judges’ table. The beloved “Dancing With the Stars” pro is returning for Dedication Night on Tuesday, October 14, and ahead of her comeback, she’s opening up about family life with her husband, businessman and “Shark Tank” star Robert Herjavec.

The couple, who met as dance partners on season 20 of the hit competition series in 2015, turned their televised partnership into a real-life love story that’s still going strong nearly a decade later.

Kym Johnson Prepares for a DWTS Homecoming

Kym, 49, is excited to return to the series that changed her life. “It’s truly one of the most special nights of the season, and I’m deeply honored to be invited back,” she told Us Weekly. “This show has been such an important part of my life, and returning to the ballroom always feels like coming home.”

The Australian dancer first joined “Dancing With the Stars” in 2006, when she was partnered with Jerry Springer in season 3. She quickly became a fan favorite, competing in 15 seasons and winning the Mirrorball Trophy twice — once with Donny Osmond and again with Hines Ward.

“My first season with Jerry will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’ll never forget the joy of winning with Donny and Hines,” she said. “But the best part of all was meeting my now husband, Robert Herjavec, through the show. I’ll always have so much to thank DWTS for!”

A Look Inside Kym and Robert’s Life Together

Johnson and Herjavec met while competing together on season 20 of “Dancing With the Stars” and came in sixth place. Off-screen, their chemistry was undeniable. Less than a year after meeting, Herjavec proposed in February 2016, and the couple married that July.

“I enjoy every minute I spend with Kym. When I met her, I felt complete,” Herjavec said at the time.

In September 2025, Johnson celebrated Herjavec’s 63rd birthday with a heartfelt message. “Happy Birthday to the man who we love more than anything @robertherjavec 🎉💕 we hope you enjoyed all of your favorite Croatian and Australian desserts 🇭🇷 🇦🇺 Proud of the pavlova the kids and I made!!” she wrote.

The couple shares twins Hudson and Haven, born in April 2018 after Johnson underwent IVF at age 41. “I had frozen my eggs when I was 35, thinking I was doing something that would help me in the future, but none of those eggs were healthy,” she previously shared. “We had been trying naturally for a while and having some trouble, so we did IVF. We actually put two embryos in, so we knew there was a chance we could have twins.”

Johnson and Herjavec split their time between Canada and her native Australia, balancing family life with their busy schedules. She also keeps active through Pilates, yoga, and dance, telling Us, “Movement has always been such an important part of my life.”

“Dancing with the Stars” alum Robert Herjavec competed on Season 20 of the show in 2015. It was one of the best decisions of his life because the journey also led to him finding lasting love with professional dance partner Kym Johnson, who is now his wife. The pair married in 2016. But what made the “Shark Tank” star want to compete on the ABC dance competition?

Robert Herjavec Reflects on His DWTS Journey

Herjavec revealed how his journey first started because of his mother, Katica, who was a big fan of the show. “My mom [wound] up getting ovarian cancer, and I would go to the hospital every Monday, and we would throw ‘Dancing with the Stars’ parties with all of the other ladies on the ward,” he said at the Clover x Shark Tank Summit in Las Vegas, Parade reports.

Herjavec recalled the conversation he had with his mom, which inspired the start of his journey, and how he competed in her honor. “One day, my mom looks at me and says, ‘Robby, you’re so beautiful, why would you not be on DWTS?’ This was at least 10 years before being on TV was even in my universe. So, of course, I look at her and say, ‘Mom, if they ever ask me, I’ll do it for you.’”

Despite not winning the Mirrorball Trophy, Herjavec, who placed sixth, left with so much more. Herjavec and Johnson have built a life together, sharing twins, and his experience on the show was unforgettable. He told Parade that the show is “near and dear” to his heart and even referred to it as the “highlight” of his career.

He continued, “It’s so funny, the dots of your life never connect until you look back. When you get older and look back, you see this connects to that, and it all makes sense. Write the life that when you look back, you’ll be happy with it!”

Robert Herjavec Shows Support for Kym Johnson

Johnson will return to the ballroom as a guest judge on Season 34, with her husband’s full support. In an Instagram post on October 9, Herjavec praised his wife, referring to her as a “superwoman.”

“Back to the ballroom! The superwoman that is @kymherjavec5678 is coming back to DWTS as a guest judge this Tuesday, October 14th!” he wrote in the caption. “She’s truly done it all – 3-time Mirrorball Champion  (including once in Australia!), host, judge in Australia, and now back on the U.S. stage alongside @derekhough, @carrieanninaba & @brunotonioliofficial.”

“Fixer Upper” stars Chip and Joanna Gaines made their first investment as Sharks on Wednesday’s episode of “Shark Tank” when they invested in GoodEgg. Chip and Jo were the only Sharks to make an offer on the farm-based product.

What is GoodEgg?

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by TJ McCormack (@theworldsgreatestroofer)

GoodEgg is owned by Amy and Bryce Van Leuven and their business partner Tim Rowberry. The Van Leuven’s came up with the idea for GoodEgg because they lived on a small homestead raising chickens. Amy explained that while she thought collecting eggs would be the fun part, she quickly realized it was far messier than she expected.

Eggs must be cleaned after they’re collected, and simple dish soap can do more harm than good, the Van Leavuens explained to the Sharks. Because egg shells are porous, the soap can leak into the eggs, carrying bacteria. Plus, traditional brushes and scrubbers can be too abrasive for a delicate egg.

GoodEgg is a flexible silicone brush that will safely clean all of someone’s fresh eggs. The product utilizes more than 650 tiny silicone nubs and is shaped to cradle an egg’s shape and remove dirt, feathers, and bacteria safely. GoodEgg also makes a natural, enzyme-based wash to help dissolve waste without using harsh soaps or bleach.

During the episode, the GoodEgg team informed the Sharks that 11 million people in the United States own backyard chickens, giving their product wide appeal. Unclean eggs, they said, can carry a salmonella or E. coli risk, making their product an important part of raising chickens.

GoodEgg Gives Back

The Van Leuvens informed the Sharks that they’re not just in business for the money; they also give to charity. In the midst of founding GoodEgg, Amy learned she had stage four breast cancer. She was also pregnant with her second child.

Luckily, Amy’s treatment was successful, and her experience led her to a new mission. GoodEgg Gives is a “corporate advised fund through the Community Foundation of Utah” whose mission is to “give directly to individuals and families affected by cancer.” 10% of GoodEgg profits go to GoodEgg Gives.

Why Chip & Joanna Were the Right Sharks to Invest

Chip and Joanna came out swinging on their “Shark Tank” debut as the only Sharks to invest in the first product of the episode. Unlike the other Sharks, Chip and Joanna actually grow their own food, giving them unique insight into a farm accessory product.

Chip and Jo offered the GoodEgg team $200,000 in exchange for 20% of the company. The group tried to counter at 15%, but the Gaines’s held firm at 20%. Ultimately, they made the deal.

Where to Buy GoodEgg Today

GoodEgg can be found in over 600 stores in the United States, according to the site’s store locator. Otherwise, interested buyers can purchase the product and various apparel items on the company’s website.

After nearly a decade away from the ballroom, “Shark Tank” star Robert Herjavec’s wife, Kym Herjavec, is ready to make her “Dancing With the Stars” comeback. However, this time she won’t be lacing up her dance shoes.

The two-time Mirrorball Trophy winner announced she will be returning to the hit ABC competition series as a guest judge on the Tuesday, October 14 episode, joining Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli at the judges’ table for what’s sure to be a nostalgic night for longtime fans.

A Return to the ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Ballroom

A post shared by Kym Johnson-Herjavec (@kymherjavec5678)

Herjavec shared the exciting news on her Instagram, captioning a carousel of photos of Kym with her dancing partners over the years with, “I’m beyond excited to be heading back to the ballroom next Tuesday. It’s such a privilege to return — this time on the other side of the dance floor, alongside the incredible judges. @carrieanninaba @derekhough and @brunotonioliofficial.”

Herjavec first joined “Dancing With the Stars” for season 3, with her first partner being Jerry Springer. She left the show back in 2017, so it’s been eight years since she’s been in the ballroom.

She continued her caption, “I joined @dancingwiththestars in Season 3 after three amazing seasons in Australia. I thought it would just be one season… but it turned into tours, friendships, and years of unforgettable memories. After 20 years, the magic is still alive (maybe stronger than ever) — and that’s because DWTS truly is a family. Coming back feels like coming home.”

Two Mirrorballs & a Husband

Herjavec had quite a journey on “Dancing With the Stars.” In her first season, she and Springer went on to finish in fifth place.

While she didn’t win the Mirrorball Trophy that season, she did go on to win it twice. She first won during season 9 with Donny Osmond. Kym then went on to win her second one during season 12 with Hines Ward.

She also went on to meet her future husband on the show, “Shark Tank” star Robert Herjavec. The couple finished in sixth place during season 20, which Kym then announced she was leaving the show after their marriage.

Herjavec told Entertainment Tonight in 2016, “I love the show and I love to still be part of it but you know, I still want to hang up my dance shoes and what a way to end.”

While she did leave the show after season 20, Herjavec came back and competed one more time during season 24. She was partnered with Mr. T, and they finished in tenth place before Kym called it quits for good.

Kym’s return to the “Dancing With the Stars” ballroom on October 14 will be the first time she’s been back in an official capacity since leaving the show in 2017.

Gerty Emotional Support Doll for Dogs Wins Hearts After "Shark Tank" Update

Pet owners everywhere know the stress of leaving their dogs home alone. Todd Schram, a hospitality tech entrepreneur, faced the same struggle with his own pup. He tried everything—diffusers, calming music, even ThunderShirts —but nothing worked. One day, out of frustration, he left a pile of his laundry on the dog’s bed. To his surprise, his dog curled up beside it, comforted by his scent. That simple moment inspired the creation of Gerty, a human-shaped inflatable doll designed to keep pets company.

SHARK TANK – “1701” – Driven entrepreneurs pitch innovative products, including an anti-snoring pillow, a chair that converts into a football game, an emotional support doll for dog,s and ready-to-eat packaged chicken

Schram later brought his invention to Season 17 of “Shark Tank,” presenting Gerty as both an emotional support doll and a “pet’s best friend.” He told the Sharks he believed the product could change the lives of anxious dogs—and the people who love them.

How the Gerty Doll Works for Dogs

Gerty is made from soft-touch vinyl with multiple air chambers for stability. It has a friendly, cartoon-like face, broad torso, and U-shaped arms, giving dogs the perfect shape to curl against. Owners are encouraged to dress Gerty in their worn clothes so the doll carries their scent, making it feel even more familiar.

While it doesn’t move or make sounds, Gerty helps regulate separation anxiety simply by being a comforting presence. As Schram explained, “Dogs just need to feel like someone is there for them.”

Where Gerty Is Now

Founded in 2024, the company now sells Gerty directly on its website and through Amazon.

The doll is available in two versions: a standard face for $39.99 and a custom face option for $64.99, allowing buyers to upload any face they choose. Each doll comes with instructions and a repair patch.

Gerty has earned positive reviews, with owners praising how it helps their dogs relax when they are away from home. Portable, lightweight, and easy to clean, the doll has become a must-have for many pet parents.

Why Pet Owners Are Embracing Gerty

Positioned as the leading solution for dog separation anxiety, Gerty has earned glowing feedback from pet parents. Many call it “life-changing,” saying the inflatable companion brings calm to their dogs and peace of mind to their families.

For creator Todd Schram, what began as a personal fix for his own pup has blossomed into a business built on comfort, love, and connection.

As more owners seek ways to nurture their pets’ emotional well-being, Gerty is becoming more than a product. It’s a trusted companion, offering stability and reassurance when families are away from home.

“Shark Tank” airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC, with episodes available to stream the following day on Hulu.

“Shark Tank” is back, and this season, the sharks aren’t swimming alone. Season 17 kicks off Wednesday, September 24, with big ideas, bigger egos, and an all-star lineup of guest sharks, including power couple Chip and Joanna Gaines, who were entrepreneurs long before they rose to fame on HGTV.

From fiery pitches to surprise celebrity cameos (yes, even Pete Davidson), the new era of “Shark Tank” promises plenty of drama, deals, and unforgettable moments.

While we are less than one week away from the season 17 premiere of “Shark Tank,” ABC is giving fans of the show (and fans of HGTV) a first look at the new season of the entrepreneurial series. With it comes a first look at Chip and Joanna Gaines, who will appear as guest sharks on the new season.

The video shared on the show’s Instagram page starts with the narrator saying, “Seventeen years ago, ‘Shark Tank’ started a revolution of ideas.” We then jump into a montage of pitches from over the previous 16 seasons, including a mechanism that lowers entire structures underground to avoid wildfire damage.

As the video continues, the narrator says, “The life-changing series returns for a new era.” Of course, this has to be in reference to Mark Cuban leaving the show. He left to spend more time with his family.

With Cuban gone, ABC is bringing in an array of guest sharks to fill his shoes alongside Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, Daniel Lubetzky, and Kevin O’Leary.

One of the big guest sharks on “Shark Tank” season 17 has to be Chip and Joanna Gaines. They are highlighted in the video, as we see Chip quip to O’Leary, “You’re Mr. Wonderful. [She’s] Miss Perfect. She’s definitely got her own money.”

In addition to the founders of the design and lifestyle empire Magnolia, the other guest sharks for season 17 include:

  • Allison Ellsworth, founder and chief brand officer of poppi
  • Alexis Ohanian, venture capitalist and founder of Seven Seven Six, co-founder of Reddit
  • Kendra Scott, owner and founder of Kendra Scott
  • Michael Strahan, co-anchor, “Good Morning America” and co-founder of SMAC
  • Fawn Weaver, founder and CEO of Uncle Nearest Inc.
  • Rashaun Williams, venture capitalist, Atlanta Falcons LP

The first look at season 17 also shows Pete Davidson, along with his partner on their business, “Double Soul Socks,” making a pitch to the panel, which brings some tension between the sharks.

Fans React to ‘Shark Tank’ First Look

As excited as we were to see the first look at Chip and Joanna Gaines on “Shark Tank,” fans of the show were just as excited about the new season.

One person wrote, “Y’all are getting me all fired up! 💪,” while another person added, “looks like some epic products 👀.”

The love continued, as another user commented, “I seriously can’t wait OMG,” and another added, “Can’t be more excited 🔥🔥🔥.”

“Shark Tank” returns for season 17 on a new night, Wednesday, September 24, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

Erika Kirk and Barbara Corcoran are both powerful women showcasing success in business and personal achievement.

Barbara Corcoran, “Shark Tank” investor and businesswoman, has a net worth of around $100 million. She worked hard to achieve her success and began her career as a receptionist for a real estate company at the age of 23. She then started her own real estate company with her then-boyfriend. After they split, she went on to found the real estate firm, The Corcoran Group.

Erika Kirk, the widow of the late Charlie Kirk, probably isn’t the first person to come to mind when you think of Barbara. Before her marriage to Charlie, Erika was best known as 2012’s Miss Arizona. After marrying Charlie, the 36-year-old began her own podcast called “Midweek Rise Up.” She started her PROCLAIM clothing line. She also happens to work as a real estate agent for The Corcoran Group.

Erika Kirk’s Connection to The Corcoran Group Sparks Curiosity

According to Erika’s LinkedIn page, she is also the founder of Everyday Heroes Like You. She lists her time working as a real estate agent for The Corcoran Group as beginning in 2018. However, on her website, the link to her real estate page for The Corcoran Group appears to be broken. The link on the company’s web page is, as well.

Despite Erika working for The Corcoran Group, t isn’t clear if she ever met Barbara. What is clear is that these two women have more in common besides having been real estate agents for the same company. They’re both powerful women who have gotten where they are through strength and determination.

After graduating from high school, Erika Lane Frantzve went to Arizona State University to study political science and international relations. Very briefly, she was an NCAA women’s basketball player at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. She also has a Juris Master’s Degree in American Legal Studies from Liberty University, a private evangelical Christian university founded by Jerry Falwell.

Currently, Erika is working towards getting her doctorate in Biblical studies.

Barbara Kept $66 Million in Her Checking Account for Years

After three decades at the forefront of The Corcoran Group, Barbara sold the firm in 2001 for $66 million, which she called her lucky number. But instead of investing the money, she revealed on the “Earn Your Leisure” podcast that she kept it in her checking account for several years.

“I was scared,” she admitted. “I figured ‘I don’t have my golden goose laying any eggs anymore.’ All of my staff was gone and I had no way to produce money. I thought to myself ’Heck, I better hold on to this money.”

Fortunately, she would find plenty of ways to invest her money with “Shark Tank” eight years later.
