Meghan Markle stepped away from Hollywood amid her romance with now-husband Prince Harry, leaving her hit show “Suits” after season 7.
Now, the Duchess is reportedly set to make a comeback with her first role in nearly eight years.
Meghan Markle Set to Make Acting Return
Markle, 44, is set to play herself in the upcoming film “Close Personal Friends,” according to Daily Mail.
The film, which stars Lily Collins, Brie Larson and Jack Quaid, follows two couples, one of which is famous, who meet in Santa Barbara, California, and become fast friends, the outlet reported.
Isaac Aptaker penned the script, and Jason Orley is set to direct the film.
“This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves,” according to The U.S. Sun. “She has been swamped with offers, but this one felt right.”
The outlet claimed this role was Meghan’s way of “gently putting her toe back in the water.”
Meghan Markle Previously Announced Her Retirement
Markle’s final appearance on “Suits” came at the end of season 7. Her character, Rachel Zane, and her fiancé, Mike Ross — played by Patrick J. Adams — accept a job offer in Seattle.
“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” she said in November 2017, following news of her engagement to Prince Harry. “It’s a new chapter, right? And also, keep in mind, I’ve been working on [Suits] for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series. I’ve ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I’ve done there, and now it’s time to work with [Harry] as a team.”
In the years since, Harry and Meghan have stepped down as senior working members of the Royal family and relocated to California. The couple currently resides in Montecito, California — just outside of Santa Barbara, where her new film is based — with their two children: Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4.
During an appearance on the “Aspire with Emma Grede” podcast in June, Markle admitted to “sometimes” missing her acting career.
“I think for me, having the series, even though it wasn’t scripted, was really great to get that piece back,” she explained of her Netflix lifestyle series, “With Love, Meghan.” “But then also building my own business, you have a team, and that’s really what I was craving.”
