Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas, is in intensive care in the Philippines after undergoing emergency surgery, the Daily Mail reports.
Thomas’ son told the outlet that he was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 2, after becoming ill at home. He then underwent a three-hour surgery and is currently in intensive care. He will have another procedure to remove a blood clot.
“I took dad to a hospital close to our home, and they did various scans, and the doctors said his life was in imminent danger,” Thomas Jr told the outlet. “They raced us by ambulance, with the sirens going, to a much bigger hospital in the centre of the city. My dad has undergone emergency surgery. I would ask everyone around the world to keep him in their thoughts.”
Thomas’ daughter Samantha also spoke about her father’s past health issues.
“My father has been through two heart attacks, a stroke and an earthquake. I hope he can pull through this,” she said.
As for Meghan, she has been estranged from her father since 2018.
Thomas Markle Suffered Two Heart Attacks Before Prince Harry and Meghan’s Wedding
Just before Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2018, Thomas suffered two heart attacks which prevented him from traveling to London to walk his daughter down the aisle.
Then, he suffered a stroke in 2022 that left him unable to speak for months.
“I feel hugely grateful and know how lucky I am to be alive,” he told the Daily Mail at the time. “I want to thank everyone, especially the wonderful doctors and nurses who saved my life. They are angels.”
“I can’t speak right now, but I am working hard and will thank people properly when I can,” Thomas added.
Thomas Markle Also Survived A 6.9-Magnitude Earthquake Earlier This Year
In October, Thomas was “trapped” on the 19th floor of an apartment building in the Philippines after a 6.9-magnitude Earthquake struck, his daughter Samantha revealed in a post on X (per The New York Post).
“My father is stuck on the 19th floor of a building in the Philippines after a massive earthquake and he can’t walk and he is trapped,” she wrote
“As of today he is OK, and making plans to get out of that building. They seem to be safe for now, and hopefully there will be no serious aftershocks. Provisions are being made so that he won’t be trapped in a similar situation again. God bless and stay safe everyone!”
