Royal watchers have grown accustomed to seeing Meghan Markle delivering poised, carefully planned interviews as part of the royal family. However, throwback footage reveals a more candid version of the duchess — and gives us some insight into her childhood. In a resurfaced 2013 interview with Craig Ferguson, Markle revealed that “Married With Children” was a big part of her formative years thanks to her father’s career. “I grew up on the set of Married With Children every day after school for 10 years,” she shared.
As she explained, her father was a Director of Photography for the popular series, and she spent time on the set after her Catholic school dismissed students for the day. “They watched me grow up,” she said of the show’s cast and crew. Markle went on to have her own successful run as an actress after this early exposure to the world of show business.
Markle was a Successful Actress Before Marrying a Prince
GettyMarkle is probably best known these days for her association with the British royal family, but she enjoyed a fruitful Hollywood career before marrying Prince Harry. Fans may remember her from her iconic role in “Suits,” but she had plenty of smaller parts before that breakout performance. Viewers can catch her in single-episode appearances on shows such as “Castle,” “Without a Trace,” and even “CSI: Miami.”
The duchess’s earliest acting credit comes from “General Hospital,” a popular starting point for many ultra-successful film and television stars. However, according to her IMDB page, there was one uncredited role that really started it all: Markle appears as an unnamed student in “The Undergraduate,” a 1995 episode of “Married With Children.”
Television is Still Part of Her Life
GettyAlthough Markle’s days of playing fictional characters are behind her, television is still part of her life. In early 2025, the duchess launched her Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan.” The eight-episode series gives fans a way to see Markle as they may never have before: as herself. She shares her favorite tips and tricks in each episode as she cooks, decorates, and entertains at home.
Of course, the series is far from the only business venture the duchess has focused on since stepping down as a working royal. In 2025, she also turned her attention to “As Ever,” a lifestyle brand that offers wine, teas, jams, and other carefully curated products.
