King Charles III has recorded what has been described as a “personal message” regarding his cancer diagnosis and recovery which will be played in a ground-breaking broadcast in the United Kingdom this evening.

His majesty’s important address will be shown as part of the “Stand Up To Cancer 2025” campaign, which is a joint endeavor by the Cancer Research UK charity and British television station Channel 4.

Charles, 77, was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer back in early 2024 — less than two years after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died with the disease, and in the same year his daughter-in-law, Catherine, Princess of Wales, discovered she had it. He has been receiving weekly treatment ever since, which, thankfully, seems to be working.

The monarch has bravely continued to work throughout his treatment and recovery, and has embarked on five state visits in 2025 year alone. He will now take the opportunity to help others in their potential cancer battles.

Charles Will Stress the Importance of Cancer Screening

In his message, which will air at 8 p.m. GMT on Channel 4’s hugely important flagship evening of programming, Charles will stress how crucial cancer screening programmes are in enabling early diagnosis and will openly “reflect on his own recovery journey” (per the Daily Mail).

The aim of this year’s Stand Up To Cancer event, in addition to raising awareness of the huge importance of diagnosing the horrible disease early, is to raise critical funding for cancer research, cancer charities, and those individuals affected by cancer.

The King’s message was recorded a couple of weeks ago in the last few days of November, in Clarence House’s Morning Room, and will air shortly before a live broadcast from a cancer clinic at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. The unique broadcast will be presented by popular television personality Davina McCall, 58, who recently battled breast cancer herself.

Charles’ Message Is a Major Break From Tradition

Charles’ message represents a major break from tradition regarding communications on medical matters within the British monarchy. Until now, Buckingham Palace has opted to keep the nature of the King’s cancer and treatment private, although they have confirmed that it isn’t prostate-related. His diagnosis in February 2024 had come after he went into hospital for routine surgery for an enlarged prostate.

Since his diagnosis, Charles has visited fellow cancer sufferers in various hospitals, including at the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Birmingham earlier this year. He spoke candidly to the patients about his own experiences with the disease, and it looks like he may do the same on a wider scale this evening.

Charles has been busy of late, with some of his most recent duties being Christmas-related. For instance, he attended an Advent Service at Westminster Abbey on December 10. However, he also hosted as “audience with” event at Buckingham Palace on December 11. It all points towards him being healthy, which is wonderful to see.

Thomas Markle’s Surgery Required Amputation

Thomas Markle’s sudden medical emergency occurred in the Philippines, and he was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery after falling ill at his home. He then had a three-hour surgery, where the 81-year-old underwent a below-the-knee amputation.

“There was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed, and it was a case of life or death,” his son, Thomas Jr., told the Daily Mail. “My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly.”

Thomas Jr. went on to say that doctors remain “extremely concerned for his father’s health, adding that he was told “the next two or three days are critical.”

This comes a day after Thomas’s son provided a preliminary update on his father to the Daily Mail.

“I took dad to a hospital close to our home, and they did various scans, and the doctors said his life was in imminent danger,” Thomas Jr told the outlet. “They raced us by ambulance, with the sirens going, to a much bigger hospital in the centre of the city. My dad has undergone emergency surgery. I would ask everyone around the world to keep him in their thoughts.”

Thomas Markle Has Had Other Heath Issues

Thomas’s daughter, Samantha, also provided some insight into her father’s past health issues.

“My father has been through two heart attacks, a stroke and an earthquake. I hope he can pull through this,” she said.

The heart attacks occurred just before Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2018, which left Thomas unable to travel and walk his daughter down the aisle.

In 2022, he suffered a stroke, which left him unable to speak for months.

And most recently, Thomas was  “trapped” on the 19th floor of an apartment building in the Philippines after a 6.9-magnitude Earthquake struck in October, his daughter Samantha revealed in a post on X (per The New York Post).

“As of today he is OK, and making plans to get out of that building. They seem to be safe for now, and hopefully there will be no serious aftershocks. Provisions are being made so that he won’t be trapped in a similar situation again. God bless and stay safe everyone!”

Prince Harry called the dish a favorite, noting that he likes the way Markle’s mom makes it.

“Hi guys. I smell gumbo,” Harry said as he entered the room. “Gumbo, for me, is one of my favorites. Especially her mom’s … but before the fish goes in.”

Markle explained that her mom, Doria Ragland, makes the dish for Christmas Eve and “saves a portion on the side” for Harry.

“My mom does the turkey sausage for you, so this one has more kick to it,” she told Harry, offering him a towel in case the spices made him sweat.

Markle shared how people gather to pull the crackers apart. “Typically people cross arms and do it. So they sit around a table and they all pull at the same time,” she explained. “It actually does feel really connected and sweet.”

The Duchess of Sussex also tried her hand at a craft activity, painting festive holiday plates with tennis star Naomi Osaka.

“It’s important to always try things that we’re not so great at, which I should remind myself when I try to draw or get on a tennis court,” she explained.

“I am so painfully bad,” Markle said of her artistic talents.

Prince Harry made his third trip to Canada in 2025, appearing recently at Toronto’s Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) Powerhouse Conference. The Duke of Sussex, 41, took the stage for an exclusive conversation at the high-profile event, which brings together political leaders, real estate professionals, and more than 450 attendees from across Ontario.

Prince Harry reportedly appeared at the conference in Toronto, Canada, on December 1. The event was organized by the OREA, which calls itself “Canada’s best political affairs conference.”

PEOPLE reported that the Duke of Sussex was due to appear at “an exclusive conversation with Prince Harry.” It was the last session of the day at the Hilton Toronto. However, the schedule for the event is no longer available on OREA’s website.

No photos of Prince Harry have been released from the event. However, OREA’s Instagram Stories included a video of attendees talking about their anticipation for his session. The Stories also included an image captioned, “last pic before Prince Harry takes the stage.”

Other Visits to Canada

Prince Harry currently lives in Montecito, California, with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

However, the Duke of Essex was in Toronto last month for a series of events commemorating Remembrance Day. This is the British equivalent of Veterans Day in the United States, with both days taking place on November 11.

At that time, Prince Harry attended several events in the Toronto area on November 5 and November 6. During those visits, he spent time with veterans, members of the armed forces community, and military charities.

He was invited to attend the events by the True Patriot Love Foundation, which works to support members of the Canadian Armed Forces, veterans, and their families.

Earlier in 2025, both Harry and Meghan made their way to British Columbia for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler in February.

This was the seventh edition of the Vancouver Whistler Games, an international adaptive sports tournament that Prince Harry founded in 2014. The games were created to uplift wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans.

That tournament happened to be the debut of the inaugural winter games. Prince Harry told PEOPLE then, “It’s incredible to be back in Canada. Canada couldn’t be more appropriate to host the first Winter Games. Everyone is so excited.”

Prince William paused to reflect on his early days with Kate Middleton during a recent visit to Wales — and the memory was all the sweeter as the couple settles into their new home.

The remembrance came on Monday, Dec. 1, when William addressed attendees at the Wales Investment Summit in Newport, according to PEOPLE.

“Wales was the first place Catherine and I made our home together,” William said. “When you make a home in Wales, you join a family of three million people, and the sense of warmth and belonging is what makes Wales unlike anywhere else.”

William was referring to the farmhouse on the island of Anglesey where the couple lived between 2010 and 2013.

At that time, William served as a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot at RAF Valley, and Kate even carried out her first royal engagement from there prior to their 2011 wedding.  

It was a foundational chapter: the pair welcomed their eldest son, Prince George of Wales, into that home and experienced the early juggling act of parenthood, royal duties, and military life.

Kate Has Previously Commented on Living in Wales

While both have expressed how beautiful and special the place is, Kate opened up about a time when it wasn’t the easiest.

She described in January 2020 how she had just welcomed their first child and felt alone, as William was working. Kate made the comments while she visited a children’s center in Wales.

“I was chatting to some of the moms, I had just had George and William was still working with search and rescue, so we came up here when George was a tiny, tiny little baby, in the middle of Anglesey,” Kate said.

She continued, “It was so isolated, so cut off, I didn’t have my family around me, he was doing night shifts, so if only I’d had a center like this at a certain time.”

Their nostalgic remarks come just weeks after William, Kate, and their three children — George, Princess Charlotte of Wales, and Prince Louis of Wales — moved into Forest Lodge, a stately eight-bedroom Georgian mansion tucked into Windsor Great Park.

The property, a considerable upgrade from their former residence at Adelaide Cottage, is widely regarded as the royal family’s new “forever home.”  

Forest Lodge offers space, privacy, and long-term stability for the family, which is a fitting contrast to their modest farmhouse beginnings on Anglesey.

Its historic elegance and sizable grounds symbolize a major milestone in their journey, but as William’s recent words prove, the emotional value of a home is far less about walls and more about memories.
