Sharon Osbourne Defends Daughter Kelly Against Weight Loss Criticism

Sharon Osbourne is standing up for her daughter Kelly Osbourne after a surge of online comments targeting Kelly’s appearance. During a recent interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Sharon addressed the criticism directly and explained that Kelly has been navigating deep grief following the passing of her father, the late Ozzy Osbourne. Sharon said Kelly has been struggling to eat while coping with the loss and urged viewers to consider what someone may be going through behind the scenes before making assumptions or hurtful comments.

According to Page Six, Sharon told Morgan that many critics use social media “as a shield,” adding that people often judge without understanding the emotional circumstances. Sharon emphasized that Kelly has been dealing with an extremely difficult period and praised her daughter for continuing to share moments of joy with her followers even while mourning.

Kelly Addresses the Backlash and Shares How Grief Has Affected Her Health

Kelly, 41, also responded to the criticism in a video shared on her Instagram stories, where she acknowledged the comments accusing her of looking “ill” or using weight loss medications like Ozempic. Kelly reminded viewers that she is grieving her father and said she is doing the best she can for herself and her family. She explained that the only thing keeping her grounded at the moment is being close to her loved ones.

In the since-deleted clip, Kelly said she prefers to share positive content rather than the painful aspects of her life, noting that online negativity often reflects a person’s own insecurity. She later added in her Instagram Stories that her life has been turned upside down and that it is unrealistic for people to expect her to look the same while navigating loss. Kelly also addressed comparisons to her teenage years, explaining that facial features naturally change with age.

According to People, Kelly has faced scrutiny over her appearance for most of her life. She has previously spoken about being judged more harshly for her weight than for any of her past struggles, and she has been candid about her ongoing journey with health and confidence.

A Long History of Public Pressure and a Mother’s Support

Kelly’s weight and health have been public topics for decades, beginning with her early years on “The Osbournes.” She later underwent gastric sleeve surgery in 2018 and lost 85 pounds, a decision she has openly defended. Even with that transformation, she continued to experience criticism at various stages of her life, including during her pregnancy with her son, Sid, when she chose to stay indoors out of fear of being body-shamed.

The renewed conversation surrounding her appearance began after Kelly revealed she had been struggling to eat while grieving the loss of her father. Sharon expressed admiration for her daughter’s resilience and said she hopes people extend kindness during such a vulnerable time. As Sharon put it to Morgan, Kelly “lost her daddy” and is simply trying to cope.

Kelly summed up her feelings clearly in her video message: “My dad just died, and I’m doing the best that I can.”
