Tom Holland gave Marvel fans a scare over the weekend when news broke that he had been rushed to the hospital after a stunt went wrong on the set of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” The accident sparked immediate speculation about the severity of the injury — and whether production on the highly anticipated sequel would be delayed. Now, there’s finally some clarity.
Tom Holland Suffers Injury During ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Stunt
Holland sustained only a minor concussion after hitting his head during filming at Pinewood Studios in London, according to Deadline.
Reports from The Sun suggested that he “cracked his head open” during a fall and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Medical officials confirmed that an ambulance was dispatched to Leavesden Studios in Watford at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, and the actor was transported for further care.
Holland’s father, comedian Dominic Holland, previously worried fans when he said his son would be away from filming “for a while.” At the time, he spoke from a charity dinner where Holland appeared briefly with his fiancée, Zendaya, before leaving early due to illness.
Adding to the concern, a stunt double on set was also reportedly carried off in an ambulance with an injury. But Holland himself appears to be recovering quickly, and according to Deadline, his break from production is strictly out of an abundance of caution.
Filming Resumes Soon For ‘Spider-Man 4’
Production has been paused temporarily, but only for a week. Filming is now expected to resume on September 29, keeping the film’s release date of July 31, 2026, intact.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is being billed as the start of a new era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, kicking off Phase 6. Zendaya will return as MJ, and Mark Ruffalo is confirmed to appear as the Hulk.
Speaking earlier this year, Holland shared why he was especially excited about this installment.
“Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we’re putting together,” Holland told reporters. “So it’s gonna feel like making [2017’s] ‘Spider-Man 1’ again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”
“Brand New Day” follows the previous three MCU Spider-Man films, which include “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
