Michelle Pfeiffer keeps her personal life rather private. However, during a chat with hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes for the SmartLess podcast, she revealed that she’s now a grandmother. In fact, she became a grandma last year.
The star who appeared as Janet van Dyne in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — among many other beloved and iconic roles — first opened up about her career and why she might not take on heftier roles these days.
“I don’t have time nor the desire to go that deep for that long and not be present,” she said. “I realize I have a finite amount of time left and — I might announce on this show — that I became a grandmother last year.”
“I’ve been very quiet about it and it is — it’s heaven,” she added. “It’s ridiculous.”
Pfeiffer is ‘Really Grateful’
GettyAlthough Pfeiffer may not want to take on roles that would keep her away from her family for lengthy periods of time, she’s still “grateful” for the parts she has taken on.
“[I]f I had known that I was going to be a grandmother, I wouldn’t have taken on so much work, but I’ve enjoyed everything and I’m really grateful,” she said on the SmartLess podcast. “I’ve loved — I love each of these projects.”
She then added, “And so the weird thing is that giving up that angst about the process has freed me up and I feel in some ways has made me better.'”
Pfeiffer Kept Quiet About Who Welcomed the Baby
GettyPfeiffer may have been willing to reveal the fact that she’s now a grandmother; however, she did keep one thing private: Who the parents happen to be.
The star has two children whom she shares with husband David E. Kelley. Her oldest child is 32-year-old Claudia, and her younger child is 31-year-old John.
In 2017, Pfeiffer opened up to Interview Magazine about balancing her career with raising children, saying, “I’m an empty nester now. I’ve never lost my love for acting. I feel really at home on the movie set. I’m a more balanced person honestly when I’m working.”
“But I was pretty careful about where I shot, how long I was away, whether or not it worked out with the kids’ schedule,” she said. “And I got so picky that I was unhirable. And then … I don’t know, time just went on. And now, you know, when the student is ready, the teacher appears. I’m more open now, my frame of mind, because I really want to work now, because I can.” Of course, that was before the new baby arrived.
