Beloved actor Chadwick Boseman died in August 2020 from colon cancer, which he battled with privately. He was 43 at the time of his passing.
Boseman is missed by his family and loved ones. Fans also miss him for his genuine personality and impressive portfolio of work. On November 20, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His widow, Simone Ledward-Boseman, attended the ceremony.
Chadwick Boseman’s Impactful Words
At the ceremony, Simone discussed her husband’s legacy and the advice he gave her, which has had a tremendous impact on her life. “A big one is protecting my energy and not being rushed. Not being rushed and not allowing anyone to rush you,” she told People in an interview published on November 23. “Understanding that everything happens in its time, that you don’t have to respond to that text right now, you don’t have to respond to that email right now.”
She continued, “You can center yourself and take the pressure off of being constantly available.”
GettySimeone and Chadwick were private people. They had been romantically linked since 2015, but chose to keep their relationship out of the limelight. They made their red carpet debut together at the 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The confirmation of their marriage came only in a statement about his death. “He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side,” the family wrote in a statement shared on Instagram at the time.
Remembering Chadwick Boseman
Simone used the interview and the celebration to remember her late husband’s legacy. Although she confessed that she did not think he often thought of it.
“I think that he thought about the work and what the thing he was working on at that moment was going to mean for the people who would come into contact with it,” she said. “I don’t think that he thought about what he was leaving behind from the perspective of himself, I think he really focused on the work, and I think that he does leave behind a legacy of intention and power and purpose.”
Simone also discussed how Chadwick had been surrounded by a “really wonderful team that protected his energy.” For the ceremony, she brought the late actor’s shoes and a framed photograph of him to place upon his Walk of Fame star during the unveiling. She described them as “beautiful shoes” that Chadwick often wore. Simone also acknowledged how he had many different looks, but felt that the pair of shoes she chose was the best one for the day.
