Losing a sibling is a lifetime grief, and for the Kardashian-Jenner family, Karen Houghton’s passing continues to echo through every milestone and memory. Kris Jenner is now remembering her beloved sister, Karen, on what would have been her 67th birthday.
“Happy heavenly birthday to my beautiful sister Karen,” the 70-year-old businesswoman wrote in an Instagram tribute on Monday, November 24.
“I think about you every single day… I miss you, I love you, and I know you’re watching over all of us,” The Kardashians star continued.
Family Photos Highlight the Bond Between the Sisters
Kris’s post featured throwback photos of her and Karen through different stages of life, along with images of loved ones.
Their mother, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, appeared in several pictures, as did Kris’s children Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, and Rob Kardashian.
The late Rob Kardashian Sr. also appeared in one of the images with Karen. Kris reshared the tribute on her Instagram Stories.
Karen’s Sudden Passing Left a Deep Impact on the Kardashian-Jenner Family
Karen died “unexpectedly” at the age of 65 on March 18, 2024.
“It is with the heaviest heart and deepest sadness that I share that my sister Karen passed away yesterday unexpectedly,” Jenner wrote on X at the time.
“My heart aches for my mom, MJ, and my niece Natalie, and I pray that God guides us all through this difficult time. Karen was beautiful inside and out.”
In the months since her passing, Jenner has remained close to her family. Earlier this year, she attended the wedding of Karen’s daughter, Natalie Zettel, to Noah Warren and celebrated the milestone publicly.
“Last weekend was a dream in La Jolla, California, celebrating my beautiful niece Natalie’s wedding,” Jenner wrote on Instagram. “Such a magical day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.”
“Karen was beautiful inside and out. She was the sweetest, kindest, the most sensitive and vulnerable, and so so funny,” Kris said, adding, “She holds such a huge part of my heart, and I cherish every single memory we have together.”
Karen’s death certificate later stated that she died from cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac arrhythmia, with Type 2 diabetes listed as a secondary underlying cause. She and Kris were raised together in San Diego, California, although Karen chose to live life outside the public eye.
Kim Kardashian and Family Continue to Honor Karen’s Legacy
Following Karen’s passing, Kim Kardashian paid her own tribute on Instagram with a carousel of photos spanning childhood to teen years. “I love you so much, Auntie Karen,” she captioned the post, adding two white dove emojis.
The family has continued to remember Karen throughout the year, sharing memories and honoring her on significant dates.
