Jeon Jong-seo Joins ‘Highlander’ Directed by ‘John Wick’s Chad Stahelski

South Korean actress Jeon Jong-seo is joining the cast of “Highlander, the upcoming remake of the 1986 fantasy action classic. The project is directed by “John Wick” filmmaker Chad Stahelski and stars Henry Cavill in the lead role, according to The Korea Times.

Jeon’s agency, ANDMARQ, confirmed on November 5 that she will appear as a member of “The Watchers,” a secret organization that observes the immortals in the “Highlander” universe. The actress joins a high-profile ensemble that includes Cavill, Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, and Jeremy Irons. The production is backed by Amazon MGM Studios, and Lionsgate, according to MK News.

Expanding Her Global Footprint

For Jeon, “Highlander” marks another step toward international recognition. She first gained attention for her breakout performance in the 2018 film “Burning”, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, she has built an eclectic portfolio that includes “The Call”, “Money Heist: Korea”, and “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon”, which premiered at the 2021 Venice International Film Festival.

Industry outlets have described her casting as a “career milestone” that underscores Hollywood’s growing openness to Asian actors in leading genre roles. VOI Indonesia reported the project drew the actress with its mix of fantasy, history, and modern action elements, which align with her interest in complex, layered storytelling.

A New Vision for a Cult Classic

The original “Highlander”, released in 1986, followed immortal warriors battling through centuries for ultimate supremacy. It popularized the catchphrase “There can be only one.” Stahelski’s remake brings that mythology to modern audiences with fresh visual effects and expansive world-building. The film also features the stylized choreography that defined the “John Wick” franchise, according to IMDb News.

Production is scheduled to begin in early 2026 after a brief delay following Cavill’s recovery from a minor injury, The Korea Times reported. The film’s estimated budget is around $75 million.

A Rising Global Star

Details about Jeon’s specific role remain under wraps. Her inclusion in a major Hollywood action fantasy marks a turning point. The role places her beside some of the industry’s biggest stars. In “Highlander”, she brings her distinct presence and intensity to a globally recognized franchise.

If “Highlander” succeeds in reviving the long-dormant series, her performance could help bridge old and new audiences. It may link the legacy of a cult classic with the reach of modern storytelling.

Jeon’s rise shows how far Korean talent has advanced in global cinema. Her journey from “Burning” to “Highlander” reflects steady ambition and range. She continues to prove that skill and presence can cross borders. With “Highlander”, Jeon Jong-seo steps closer to becoming a true global star.
