‘Scream’ Movie Alums Team Up for New Horror Flick

Two actors are teaming up yet again for another horror movie.

Matthew Lillard recently revealed he played in helping his “Scream” co-star Skeet Ulrich land a spot in “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” in an interview with PEOPLE published September 27.

Lillard and Ulrich first took on the big screen together in the 1996 horror movie “Scream,” a movie that follows a serial killer, known as Ghostface, targeting a high school student and her friends.

Lillard continued his career in horror movies, appearing in the 2023 film “Five Nights At Freddy’s,” (FNAF) based off of a video game about a security guard dealing with animatronics that come to life.

The 55-year-old actor revealed some insight into the video game creator Scott Cawthon’s casting process.

“When Scott [Cawthon] was considering who to cast for this role that Skeet’s in, he started looking around and considering who — sort of a middle-aged man,” Lillard told PEOPLE ahead of the FNAF sequel’s release.

The actor said Cawthon asked him, “What’s Skeet like to work with? How is he as a guy?”

“He’s a dream,” Lillard said of his co-star. “He’s the sweetest man around. He’s talented, and he cares deeply about fans.”

It was first revealed in July that Ulrich, 55, would be joining the cast.

“How amazing is Matt Lillard? Isn’t he the best?” Ulrich said on stage of San Diego Comic Con after the reveal. “I can’t tell you honored I am to be a part of this family and to be a part of the fandom now that is really voracious.”

The “Scooby-Doo” star explained he, Ulrich and Cawthon have one thing in common that will benefit the movie.

“I think that both of us approach fandom with love and admiration and appreciation,” Lillard said. “And I think that really speaks to Scott, because he has that same affiliation with his fans.”

“I think that’s one of the reasons he brought in Skeet. And I think Skeet knocked it out of the park. He’s fantastic in the film, and I’m excited for people to see it,” he continued.

Lillard also revealed he saw the FNAF 2, telling PEOPLE he approves of the movie. He further teased that Cawthon and Emma Scott, the film’s director, “listened to what fans had to say.”

“We want more jump scares,” he said “We want to sit in the audience and not only get lore from the world, we want to be filled with feelings. We want to feel the movie like we felt the game.”

“I think they did an incredible job executing on that,” he continued. “And I think the fans are going to lose their minds. I think the movie is really fantastic.”

“Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” premieres in theaters on December 5.
