“Good Boy” is a horror film scheduled for release on October 3, 2025. The spooky flick features the dog of the film’s director, Indy.
At the film’s premiere on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Indy was the star of the red carpet. Other dogs also joined Indy at the “Good Boy” premiere.
Indy the Dog Loves the Attention
Dogs often don’t take center stage at a film’s premiere. However, for the “Good Boy” premiere, the star of the new horror film was the focus. The loveable pooch wore a bowtie collar, which is sure to become an in-demand item for canine owners everywhere.
Furthermore, Indy wasn’t the only dog to strut on the red carpet during the event. A video clip shared to X by the Shudder social media account showed several other canines taking in the glitz and the glamour of the premiere.
Shudder and IFC (Independent Film Company) produced the film.
How Indy Became the Leading Man in ‘Good Boy’
The concept for “Good Boy” began as a short film. According to an interview with Variety, the film’s director, Ben Leonberg, said they never intended to make a feature-length adaptation of it.
“There was this short film contest called The Rode Reel, which was the biggest online short film contest we entered,” Leonberg told Variety. “We didn’t make the short with the express purpose of [adapting it into a feature], but there was a big financial prize, which was the kickstart to making this movie.”
Leonberg also revealed that Indy was only supposed to be in the short film. However, once audiences saw him on the screen, Leonberg made a realization.
“We won the [Judges’ Film Prize], but then Indy was nominated for best actor,” Leonberg revealed to Variety. “When I started writing the film, I didn’t intend to make the movie with Indy, but people were reacting to him so strongly and so positively. I do think he legitimately has some quirks that make him uniquely suited to do this.”
“It kind of forced our hand. He became my leading man.”
‘Good Boy’ Is a Hit With Audiences & Critics
The review website, Rotten Tomatoes, is showing favorable scores for the new horror film.
According to the site, 91% of critics have given it a positive review. This is based on 77 reviews. Additionally, 89% of the audience has rated the film 3.5 stars out of 5.
“‘Good Boy’ is a visually striking, emotionally devastating horror film that eschews genre conventions to deliver a uniquely haunting and conceptually ambitious experience,” says the Critics Consensus on the Rotten Tomatoes website.
The film is in theaters now.
