Eric Dane Posts Video About ALS Amid Health Battle After Missing the Emmy Awards

Eric Dane was in an Instagram video post discussing the need for an ALS cure on Monday, one day after he missed the Emmy Awards, at which he was supposed to present an award. Dane is an actor know for his work on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Fixer,” and, currently, HBO’s “Euphoria.

Despite being a massive TV star, Dane’s health issues may have prevented him from attending the yearly award show. Now, he’s speaking out about his disease.

Eric Dane’s Diagnosis

In April 2025, People exclusively reported that Dane had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS is a progressive disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, ultimately causing a loss of muscle control. Over time, those with ALS lose the ability to speak, eat, walk, and breathe independently.

Dane hasn’t let the disease change his life completely. As he told People, “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of ‘Euphoria’ next week.” “Euphoria” season 3 will air sometime in the spring of 2026, according to a Variety interview with HBO CEO Casey Bloys.

In fact, Dane told E! News that he had no plans to stop acting anytime soon. Specifically, he said, “I’m going to ride this till the wheels fall off.”

Unfortunately, Dane missed a “Grey’s Anatomy” reunion with Jesse Williams at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. According to Deadline, the exact reason why is yet unknown.

Eric Dane’s ALS Video

In the “I Am ALS” video, Dane pushes for a fast, effective cure for ALS. He says he’s partnered with the grassroots advocacy movement on the Push for Progress, a campaign to speed up research and get a billion dollars in federal funding for ALS over the next three years. Dane also expresses the desire for Congress to renew the “ACT for ALS” law, which establishes grant programs to address neurodegenerative diseases.

Dane’s speech in the video was slowed, which can be a symptom of the disease. In June 2025, he told Good Morning America that “my left side is functioning, my right side has completely stopped working.” He also noted that his left arm has been getting weaker. “I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering,” Dane said.

Currently, ALS is fatal, but I Am ALS hopes to change that. There are treatments that can slow the progression, but it cannot reverse the condition.

Dane has been married to Rebecca Gayheart since 2004. The couple has two kids together, ages 15 and 13. Dane is 52 years old, and although he is angry about his diagnosis, he has said he will not stop fighting for his life.

  1. I was diagnosed last July. I was wheelchair-bound. My feet hurt horribly on the foot pedals. I started the ALS/MND program about 4 months ago. I’m now able to walk down the street and back; at least I couldn’t do that prior to the ALS treatment. It didn’t make the ALS go away, but it did give me a better quality of life. I got the treatment from Limitlesshealth center. c o m
    Thanks
