Jessica Capshaw is officially back on TV, and this time she’s trading hospital scrubs for cowboy boots. As per a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the “Grey’s Anatomy” favorite, best known for her beloved role as Dr. Arizona Robbins, is stepping into an all-new world with “9-1-1: Nashville”, the latest spinoff in Ryan Murphy’s hit franchise.

The new series, co-created by Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani, follows a crew of first responders tackling high-stakes emergencies in the heart of Music City.

Capshaw plays Blythe Hart, a fierce but warm Southern matriarch balancing family, love, and legacy while standing beside her firefighter husband, portrayed by NCIS: LA alum Chris O’Donnell.
From Surgeon to Southern Matriarch
Capshaw’s new character is a far cry from Arizona Robbins, the warm yet ambitious pediatric surgeon she played for nearly a decade. In “9-1-1: Nashville”, her world revolves around family, legacy, and love tested by secrets.
“I do think a wonderful thing about playing her is that she just has this confidence and this calm,” Capshaw told The Hollywood Reporter. “Even though she has so much and is so privileged, there’s something very warm and earthy about her.”
Balancing Nostalgia & New Adventures

While Capshaw has officially moved on to a new role, “Grey’s Anatomy” continues to hold a special place in her heart. “It was home for so long, and I love it there,” she said. “I love the family and I love the character, so I’m always available to that show.”
Her connection to the series shines through longtime friends and co-stars, including Camilla Luddington, with whom she co-hosts the “Call It What It Is” podcast.
Could Arizona Robbins Return Someday?

Fans haven’t stopped asking whether Dr. Arizona Robbins and Dr. Callie Torres, played by Sara Ramirez, could ever find their way back to each other on screen. For years, the “Grey’s Anatomy” power couple has remained one of TV’s most beloved relationships, and Capshaw understands why.
She isn’t ruling anything out, but leaves their story to the imagination of viewers. “If you’ve been a fan of that relationship, then whatever you want to imagine about them is what should live in your head,” she shared.
For Capshaw, returning to television feels like a full-circle moment. After bringing so much heart to Arizona Robbins for nearly a decade, she’s ready to explore new stories and characters with the same warmth and strength fans loved her for. As “9-1-1: Nashville” premieres, her comeback marks more than a new role. It’s a reminder that Capshaw’s magic on screen is timeless, no matter the uniform she’s wearing.
