“Grey’s Anatomy” star Kim Raver recently revealed she helps keep her co-star in check with his American accent while filming for the show.
Raver playfully teased her co-star and on-screen love interest, Kevin McKidd, in an interview with On The Red Carpet. McKidd revealed he went to his native country of Scotland during the show’s hiatus during season 21, making it a bit challenging to slip back into his American accent for the show.
“I go to Scotland in the hiatus and then I have to get my American accent back, which is always…” the 52-year-old actor said.
“Which is perfect, though,” Raver quipped.
“Kim always corrects me. Well, she doesn’t correct me, she keeps an eye on me,” McKidd said. “She’s like, ‘That didn’t sound…”

Raver responded with an example from filming.
“Like the other day when you had to say the word ‘tour,'” she said, adding a Scottish accent on the word “tour.”
“I was like, ‘Tour?'” she continued with an American accent. “Sometimes I don’t want to say anything, so we’ll be doing a scene face-to-face and I’ll look and my eyes will kind of like…” she said, looking off to the side.
“And he’s like, ‘Is that right?’ I’m like, ‘Maybe a little more American.'”
McKidd could be heard laughing as she told the story.
“But no, your accent is perfect,” she added.
In an interview with KATU Lifestyle, Raver was asked if she ever puts on a fake accent, given that she acts alongside a Scottish actor and is married to a Frenchman.
“I do accents all the time because it’s just so fun to kind of live in their reality,” she said.
The pair further revealed to KATU that they practically have their own language since they’ve been working together so long.
“There’s just this understanding of one another,” Raver said.
“Kim always knows if I’m a little stressed or a little irked or annoyed,” McKidd added.

GettyWhile the two aren’t original cast members, they’ve made their way up to the main cast, appearing for over a decade on the show. McKidd has been on “Grey’s Anatomy” playing Dr. Owen Hunt since 2008. Raver joined the show a year later before leaving in 2012.
Raver, who plays Dr. Teddy Altman, rejoined in season 14, later becoming a main cast member in the next season.
Teddy and Owen met while in the army, and their relationship eventually built up to a friends-to-lovers storyline.
The characters got married at the start of season 18 and share two children, their daughter Allison and adopted son Leo.
Season 22 of “Grey’s” premieres on October 9, picking up on a cliffhanger of a gas explosion in the hospital. The previous season’s ending leaves six characters in danger, with fans preparing for a potential character’s death.
