Mario Lopez is spreading festive cheer this holiday season by recreating his viral underwear photo. It’s not just any photo, though; it is a snap of the “Access Hollywood” host and Great American Family actor wearing bright red underwear while decorating his Christmas tree.

The photo first surfaced on the internet in 2012, when Lopez’s loving wife, Courtney Lopez, posted a picture on X showing him decorating their tree while standing on a ladder in a black T-shirt and red underwear. Their daughter, Gia, is also in the image, holding the ladder for her dad. It’s a moment that is equal parts sweet and hilarious. 

“My husband looks hot rockin his @RatedMOfficial with his little elf….#lovethem,” Courtney captioned the photo. At the time, reactions included, “Wow! He looks amazing lucky you Ms. Lopez :),” and “Wow, gotta get my hubby some of those & a tall Xmas tree!.”

People magazine thought it would be a brilliant idea to recreate this photo, 13 years later. They went to the family’s Los Angeles home for a photoshoot, and Courtney reflected on the original picture in an interview. “I was decorating a tree at our old house, and [Gia] was there, I couldn’t reach the star, so I asked Mario to do it, and she just [grabbed his legs] on her own,” she told People. “I happened to just have my camera, and I snapped that picture. The rest is history. It just went viral. We call it, at our radio show, the Lopezy.”

A Christmas to Remember 

The Lopez family also posed for photos together for their Christmas photoshoot. A picture shows Mario, Courtney, and their three children wearing matching Christmas pajamas. Even their three adorable dogs are involved in the picture. Family is so important to the Lopez clan, and Mario spoke about his love for his nearest and dearest in the interview. 

“It’s all about familia. Spending time together, drinking, eating, gambling, listening to music, watching movies and just checking out and focusing on what’s important,” he said of their priorities this festive season. “Not worrying about all the other stuff, just locking in and being with each other.”

On December 1, Mario and Courtney celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary with a cute Instagram video of them dancing. “Married to my favorite person to laugh with, dance with, and get lost in the moment with…Still crazy about you… and still surprised you’re still putting up with me,” he wrote in the caption. “Te quiero mucho mi amor.”

It’s going to be a wonderful festive season for Mario because, in addition to this photo, he is also the star of two Christmas films this year, which will air on Great American Family. “The Christmas Spark” is already airing, and “Chasing Christmas” will be available on December 21, People reports.

“This is a Facetime call I got from Leila and I screen recorded the call but I somehow didn’t get the audio,” he explained. “There was so much hate and aggression towards mostly my character but partially me too… and she was really upset and it bothered her… she couldn’t handle it.”

She also discussed how essential it was to have flexibility in marriage and how having children put pressure on the relationship. “You really, I think, year to year you have to re-evaluate what’s working, what’s not, how are the schedules changing, and you have to continually adapt to what’s new to figure out your rhythms,” she said. “And the rhythms are going to keep changing.”

Cameron Bure continued, “So having flexibility not only in schedule but with each other as husband and wife, because that’s the first thing that’s going to go. Your marriage gets put to the test because first of all, you have kids that come in and they demand all of you. Then they get a little older, and then they pit you against your husband, and you don’t even realize it.”

The couple are parents to three children: a daughter, Natasha, and two sons, Lev and Maksim. Cameron Bure discussed what she meant about the children pitting her and her husband against each other by giving a relatable example. “They’re going to ask you for a cookie, and you’re going to tell them no. And then they’re going to go to daddy, and they’re going to go, ‘But I’m having the cookie cuz daddy said yes.’ And then you’re like, ‘Why did you give that to her? I already told her no.’ And he’s like, ‘Well, I didn’t know that.’”

Cameron Mathison, a longtime Hallmark staple who has since transitioned to Great American Family, will not attend the 2025 convention due to a scheduling conflict, organizers announced.

“Due to a scheduling conflict, our friend Cameron Mathison won’t be able to join us this year for Christmas Con,” the post read. “He will be missed dearly! But we’ve got some very merry news to make up for it… another surprise guest announcement is coming your way today!”

Mathison has not yet commented on the announcement.

But in recent years, many fans and former castmates have expressed hope, like Krakow, that Loughlin will be forgiven and allowed to return to Hope Valley.

Krakow, whose new movie “Christmas Above the Clouds” premieres on November 8, told Us Weekly, “I love Lori Loughlin, and I love the character she created, Abigail Stanton.”

Noting that Loughlin’s return is “something I’ve been hoping for for years and years,” Krakow told the outlet, “I’m very much a fan of hers and a friend of hers, so I really hope that it’s happening.”

McGarry weighed in, “I think there’s been lots of people that (have) said we’d love to have her back. It’s not our decision of course.”

Even show co-creator Brian Bird said in 2023 that he was open to bringing Loughlin back on the series, stating on the “When Calls The Heart Aftershow” podcast that there had been “good conversations” about her potential return.

He said in that interview, “Our attitude always has been, you know as the producing team and the writing team around ‘When Calls the Heart,’ that what better place for second chances than Hope Valley. And so in theory, it should work, right? But again, can’t fully promise it but we’re working on it.”

“Shooting a movie is probably faster than you think. It takes 15 working days to make one of these movies. I really wanted to do a time travel movie, and I worked with these two great writers that have written a couple of my other Christmas movies and an Easter movie, Macy McClane and Taylor Kalupa. Together, we thought of a really cool time travel story, but they really put all the details together and put a beautiful script.”

And this one’s extra personal. “This one was always meant for my daughter and I to do together. It’s a mom’s dream come true to work with one of your children,” Bure added. “Natasha is such a wonderful actress, and it’s just a blessing to me. I love being with her. I love working together. We’re living together while we’re making this movie. So it’s pretty special for me.”

While the two haven’t prayed together on set, Bure said, “I’m certainly in prayer every day over the movie.”

On October 26, Mathison shared his tribute via his Instagram page. He included a wide variety of photos of his mom from over the years. Some were from the days early in her marriage, and several showed her with Mathison, his ex-wife, Vanessa Mathison, and their kids, Lucas and Leila.

One photo showed his mom by his side as he was going through cancer treatments. Another appeared to be Mathison with his father and brother. The photo showed the three men with their wrapped their arms around one another’s shoulders as they looked out at the ocean. It seems likely this was taken as the family bid a final farewell to Mathison’s mother.

In the caption of his new tribute post, Mathison wrote, “She fought such a brave battle with brain cancer, and even through it all, she never stopped smiling.”

He continued, “Just the most loving, devoted mom — always there for her sons, always giving, always full of light. She spent her life caring for others, working for the Ministry of Health of Ontario, and somehow still. had endless love left for her family.”

The first photo showed a vase of yellow roses with a framed photo of Lucas and Leila in front of it. Mathison noted in his caption that yellow roses had always been her favorite.

Cindy Busby left a string of white heart emojis, and Mathison’s “General Hospital” co-star Finola Hughes commented, “Such an elegant lady, and beautiful on the inside.”

Mary-Margaret Humes, who starred in Hallmark’s “Christmas in Love” and “Dawson’s Creek,” commented, “Rest well sweet mom … your boy’s doing really really well … you’d be proud.”

Lacey Chabert sent her love to Mathison’s family, as did former pop star Debbie Gibson.

The loss of his mother is just one of several heartbreaking journeys Mathison has had to navigate in recent years. He dealt with his own cancer diagnosis, and he lost his beloved dog Red a couple of years ago. He split from his wife, and in January, a wildfire completely destroyed the family’s California home.

Through it all, Mathison has focused on gratitude and perseverance, inspiring fans and colleagues alike.
