‘Friends’ Star Returns To Social Media With ‘Real, Raw & Honest’ Post Amid MS Battle: PHOTO

Christina Applegate is sharing a vulnerable new chapter with her fans. The “Dead to Me” star, 53, made her Instagram debut on Thursday, posting a striking black-and-white photo that instantly resonated with followers. In her caption, Applegate blended humor, honesty, and heart — reminding the world why she’s one of Hollywood’s most beloved voices.

“Hi everyone, Christina here,” the beloved “Friends” star wrote. “If you told me a year ago that I’d be on Instagram, I would have said, F— off! But here I am, so I’m going to do it my way. Real, raw, honest.”

Applegate Makes Rare Appearance On First Social Media Post

The Emmy winner called the portrait “my favorite picture of myself lately,” explaining it was taken “in my backyard with the chimes that remind me of my mother and a moon necklace from a dear witchy friend.” She even poked fun at “the half tuck of the shirt,” making fans smile with her trademark self-deprecating humor.

Within minutes, her comment section filled with love and encouragement from fans and friends praising her bravery, authenticity, and openness amid her ongoing MS journey.

Applegate revealed her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021 and has been candid about the challenges she faces. MS is an autoimmune condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, often leading to chronic pain, fatigue, and mobility issues.

She wrote on x: “Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some asshole blocks it.”

Since going public with her diagnosis, the Emmy-winning actress has used her platform to raise awareness and foster empathy. Through her podcast MeSsy, which she cohosts with actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate has spoken openly about her symptoms, treatment, and emotional struggles.

‘Raw, Real, Honest’: Applegate on Her MS Journey

Applegate’s MeSsy cohost Sigler, who was diagnosed with MS while filming The Sopranos, told People earlier this year that she wanted to help Applegate navigate life with the condition. “I wanted to give her tools and things that I’ve learned that have helped me,” Sigler said.

The two became close friends through mutual friend Lance Bass, eventually deciding to share their conversations with the world. “We would talk on the phone for two hours,” Applegate explained. “We’d be laughing and crying, and we were like, ‘This is helping us. Let’s record this. Let’s do it.’”

Applegate’s words on the podcast have often mirrored the tone of her new Instagram debut — unfiltered, emotional, and deeply human.

In a March episode of MeSsy, Applegate revealed she had been hospitalized “upwards of 30 times” since her diagnosis. “Three years since I was diagnosed, I’ve been in the hospital upwards of 30 times from throwing up and diarrhea and pain,” she said. “That is unimaginable.”

She also described the physical pain she experiences daily. “I lay in bed screaming,” Applegate shared in a November episode. “The sharp pains, the ache, that squeezing — everybody’s symptoms show up differently.”

Despite the hardships, Applegate continues to inspire fans through her vulnerability and humor. Her decision to join Instagram marks not only a personal milestone but also a moment of connection with the people who have supported her through her journey.

New episodes of MeSsy debut Tuesdays, offering fans more of the absolute, raw honesty that defines Christina Applegate both on and off the screen.

  2. All prayers to Ms. Applegate. Such bravery in the face of a horrible disease. She was one of the stars of “Married With Children” not “Friends”.
