The fashion world is in mourning today as renowned Scottish fashion designer Pam Hogg has passed away. Known for her outside-the-box designs, she worked with the likes of Lady Gaga, Kate Moss, Rihanna, and Kylie Minogue. Now, her family has released a statement, and fans are paying tribute on social media.
Hogg’s family released its statement via the Pam Hogg Fashion Instagram Account. They began, “The Hogg Family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Pamela. We are grateful in the knowledge that her final hours were peaceful and surrounded by the loving care of cherished friends and family.”
The family continued, “We wish to thank all the staff of St Joseph’s Hospice, Hackney, for the beautiful support they provided for Pamela in her final days. Pamela’s creative spirit and body of work touched the lives of many people of all ages, and she leaves a magnificent legacy that will continue to inspire, bring joy, and challenge us to live beyond the confines of convention.”
The statement concluded, “Pamela will continue to live in our hearts and minds. A glorious life lived and loved 💛 Photograph by William Waterworth.”
Hogg never publicly disclosed her age, but it is generally accepted that she was in her 60s.
Pam Hogg Leaves Behind a Tremendous Legacy
Hogg was born in Paisley, Scotland, and later studied Fine Art and Printed Textiles at the Glasgow School of Art. She then studied at the Royal College of Art in London, which is where she also launched her first collection in 1981.
Hogg once told BBC, “I started making clothes when I was about five years old from all the hand-me-downs from neighbours – more wealthy neighbours, but they probably weren’t that wealthy, just better off than us. And I was really formulating my look way back then.”
To most, Hogg is most known for her iconic catsuits, which Minogue, Rihanna, and Gaga have all worn. Naomi Campbell, Jessie J, Björk, Siouxsie Sioux, Grace Jones, and Kelly Rowland have also sported her designs.
Social Media Is Remembering Her Legacy
Many of the biggest celebrities wear Hogg’s designs. This is so much the case that her eccentric garments made a presence on social media and in the world of pop culture in general. As a result, many are flocking to various platforms to pay tribute to her legacy.
One person said on X, “Sad to see Pam Hogg has died. Uber talented, she gave so much to culture. RIP.” Musician Dot Allison wrote, “Oh no, how very sad to hear of the loss of Pam Hogg… Another amazing soul gone too soon … RIP Pam 💔❤️.”
Writer Cosey Fanni Tutti said, “Stunned to hear Pam Hogg has died. Such incredible talent and spirit. So so sad, and how I wish we’d had time to record that record we planned. Sweet dreams, Pam ❤️x x”
Finally, someone else said, “Rest in Punk, lovely, Pam Hogg.”
She will be missed, but her legacy will live on forever.
