The Latest Update on Trisha Yearwood & Garth Brooks

Trisha Yearwood is opening up about life, marriage, and what really changed after she wed fellow country legend Garth Brooks in 2005. Nearly 20 years later, the couple is still going strong, and Yearwood says one of the biggest reasons is the decision she made early in their relationship to prioritize their life together over a demanding touring schedule.

Brooks and Yearwood tied the knot on December 10, 2005, at their home near Tulsa, Oklahoma. Speaking during “In Her Own Words: An Evening With Trisha Yearwood” at The Paley Center for Media in New York City, the Grammy winner looked back on the moment her lifestyle shifted.

“When I married Garth, and I moved to Oklahoma, I stopped,” she said.

Trisha Yearwood Says Marriage Meant Changing Her Priorities

Yearwood explained that she knew she needed to slow down if she wanted her new marriage to work.

“I wasn’t touring 200 days a year anymore. I was a bonus mom to three children and I was trying to make a marriage work, because I had learned that marriages don’t work if you’re never together,” she shared. “That’s kind of important. You have to be together.”

That also meant saying no to some projects and saying yes to routines like family dinners, time at home, and everyday parenting moments. It’s a balance she has maintained ever since.

Yearwood and Brooks first met in 1987 during a demo session in Nashville and remained close friends for years. They began dating in 2001 after Brooks’ divorce and went on to build a powerhouse partnership both on and offstage. Over the years, they’ve recorded multiple duets, toured together, and even won a Grammy.

Outside of music, Yearwood has stepped into the world of food and lifestyle entertainment. She is a bestselling cookbook author and host of the Emmy-winning TV show “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen.” Her latest album, Christmastime, was released on November 7.

Garth Brooks and the Food Network Star Have One Rule: They Don’t Spend Nights Apart

Yearwood and Brooks remain devoted to each other’s careers and their marriage. During a 2024 interview with Deadline, Brooks praised his wife, saying, “I’m lucky to know her as an artist, I’m lucky to know her as a husband, really lucky to know her as my best friend.”

Yearwood told Parade that the couple made a promise early on: “We pretty much don’t spend a night apart. We made a decision when we got married to not be apart. We tour together; we do everything together.”

And even as Brooks recently faced accusations from a former employee—which he has denied—Yearwood showed her support by sharing a throwback Instagram photo of the two together onstage with the caption: “Love One Another. #Vegas.”

There’s one question Yearwood still laughs about. During an appearance on TODAY, Savannah Guthrie asked what she wished people would stop asking her. Her answer: “Where’s Garth?”

“I don’t mind it,” Yearwood joked. “But in the beginning, I was like, ‘He’s not here, you just get me. Sorry!’”

Years later, it goes both ways. With her thriving culinary career and TV presence, she shared that fans now ask Brooks the same thing: “Where’s Trisha?”

After nearly 20 years, Yearwood and Brooks continue to prove why they are one of country music’s most enduring couples—and still as connected as the day they said “I do.”
