Hallmark’s newest Countdown to Christmas film, “Christmas Above the Clouds,” premieres on Saturday, November 8, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. Encores will air throughout the season. The movie stars Erin Krakow and Tyler Hynes. Read on to learn all about where the movie was filmed, and see behind-the-scenes stories from cast.
‘Christmas Above the Clouds’ Was Filmed in Canada
“Christmas Above the Clouds” was filmed in the Vancouver region of Canada. According to Abbotsford Tourism, some scenes were also filmed in nearby Abbotsford, Canada. (Abbotsford City Council shared that as of the end of October, more than 41 productions had filmed in the area in 2025, bringing $2.1 million to the community.)
According to production details on ACFC West, the movie was directed by Peter Benson and executive produced by Jennifer Aspen (who is quick to point out that she executive-produced the movie with her husband, David O’Donnell.) It was filmed from June 9 to June 26.
Krakow and Hynes first started hinting about the film in June. On June 22, Krakow shared a series of photos with a comment that she was now in Vancouver, Canada.
On June 26, Hynes shared an Instagram reel from the set where he was filming a Christmas movie. His video showed a decorative Christmas tree that looked like the same tree that was in one of Krakow’s photos. So fans quickly put two and two together and realized the duo was finally making a Christmas film together.
The duo has shared fun videos from the set ever since.
Fans have been loving the videos they’re sharing.
Krakow took one video of Hynes that she captioned “sleepy sugarplum.”
Benson, who directed, wrote about the film: “Had the best time directing #ChristmasAboveTheClouds – this was an ambitious and incredibly fulfilling project led by the incredible duo of @erinkrakow and @tyler_hynes – these two are at the top of their game in this movie and absolutely light up the screen with their dazzling chemistry. Sooo many people poured their hearts and souls into this one… Was so lucky to be a part of this magical movie and also got a chance to jump in front of the camera for a few scenes!”
In an interview with EntertainmentNOW, Hynes said he agreed to do the movie because “I wanted to do this movie because I wanted to see Erin play this part. I wanted to see her, in person, do her thing. I wanted to be a witness to it.”
He added that it took a couple of days before the duo fell into their easy on-set chemistry when they started filming. He added that each movie he does “feels new every time,” and “that’s also why it feels refreshing. It makes it challenging every time. There’s always something you never expect. So with Erin, it was another unique experience.”
In an interview with Swooon, Krakow said: “We’ve been wanting to reunite on a project for some time. We filmed ‘It Was Alwas You’ back in 2020, so it’s really been a while. It didn’t disappoint. It was great to get to work with him again.”
She flimed the movie right before starting production on “When Calls the Heart” season 13.
